Underground swimming experience
It seems a little exaggerated, but in fact that's the way it is, I mean the cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico.
"The cenotes are unique formations in the world, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and most mystical attractions of Yucatan. The word cenote comes from the Mayan word Dzonot, which means "waterhole", it is formed because rainwater it filters through the porous soil and underground rivers are created, in some places the rock sinks or creates cracks, exposing the beautiful springs of fresh and fresh water, ideal for a refreshing swim bath ".
My experience
I have been swimming a couple of times in the crystal clear water of the cenotes, but the fact of having the most recent experience.
An uncle took me and my brother to a cenote whose name I do not remember, it was not very well known, it was behind the house of a family in the picturesque town of Yucatan. It was the first day of January, the guide was not in the best conditions because he had drunk a lot a day before, he confessed it. At first, the light enters and you walk as if you had entered a cave, then it began to fill with water and in a moment I was able to swim, then the water descended and I walked again; the water was crystal clear and there were peaks of rock of different sizes that dropped the water, it was beautiful. At one point, the guide entered the depths of the cenote, took out a handful of mud and gave it to everyone so that we could spread it over our body.
My uncle already knew the cenote so the guide allowed us to go further, every time we went, it was more surprising, you went up and down here and there. It was magnificent, there was only a small problem at a point where we had already advanced a lot and the light was definitely not enough, the guide turned off his lamp and we waited while he tried to turn it on again, he did not succeed, that was beginning to be A bit alarming, so he proposed that he return to the exit to carry a new lamp and so take us to the exit, there was no other alternative so we agreed. We waited about 20 minutes, we talked about a couple of things and we were tight in total darkness, we all remained calm, because my uncle knew well the cenotes and was passionate about diving, in fact he took the opportunity to tell us that he had once dived two approximately in a cenote with a group until he managed to go out to sea, anyway. The guide returned and along the same path we managed to reach the exit. And ended the adventure talking with the guide and knowing the land that was around the cenote, with a great story to tell and with smooth skin thanks to the mud bath of the cenote.
It is a great experience to be inside a cenote, highly recommended for people who love nature, not recommended for claustrophobic people.
