Business trip: Maastricht # 3

The next day I continue my city tour.

Selexyz bookstore in Maastricht
Selexyz Dominicanen is considered to be the most magnificent bookstore in the world. It is actually an old Gothic church or cathedral located in the former Dominican monastery that has been transformed into a modern library.
The cathedral was built in 1294 years. Decorated with Gothic style, grand walls, spectacular arches,….
In a huge open space there are bookshelves on three floors.
The bookstore has 1200 squares, but the church has only 750 square meters of floor space. To make up for the place the bookstore was made vertically. There is also a small cafe inside the bookstore.
This amazing church / bookstore proves that the building can truly experience conversion and retain its original charm.
As well as the entire Maastricht, where modern buildings blend with old buildings.

The second location is the Basilica of Our Lady.

The basilica is located next to the hotel where I was located.
Basilica of Our Lady is from the eleventh century and was built on the site of a Roman castrum.

By the way, The castrum excavations are located in the grounds of the Derlon hotel where I am located. More precisely the hotel was made on castrum. Excavations can be seen in the basement where is hotel restaurant and they are well protected
