Ice Cream Truck in -3 Degrees?!

in #travel7 years ago

When you move to a place like Norway from a place like Australia there are a number of new experiences to be had, and surprisingly some that are all too familiar - but in a very different setting.

For instance, yesterday I got to meet this guy. What made this meeting unique to me was because this man is an ice cream driver... in Norway... in -3 degrees (celsius). Yep.

I was out for a (brief) walk, because the sun happened to come out and you take advantage of that. As I was walking along I heard a familiar high pitched sound being forced out of a loudspeaker moving along at a slow pace. This woke up the familiar need to run towards it that came from childhood because... thats an ice cream truck! But wait, its freezing... why would there be an ice cream truck?

I went closer to inspect the surreal situation and got into a conversation with the driver. He was one of the nicest guys I've met in the area yet (and that says a lot - people are great here), and I told him that I've never seen an ice cream truck out in such cold temperatures. He laughed and said he wanted to GIVE me an ice cream to celebrate my new milestone haha. Legend!

I only had Australian cash on me so I gave him that for the ice cream. I had been served a cold dessert in the coldest temp I've ever had a cold dessert - and he had money from the other side of the world. We both win!

Just another update from my new life in the far north. This place is incredible and never ceases to provide surprises :)

Happy Monday!

Josh
