Trip to Uros Part 2

in #travel7 years ago

The Uros people are very friendly and always willing to share their customs with the tourists, some families let the tourists spend the night on their islands, this cultural experience provide the family extra income.
They also sell handmade souvenirs and provide small rides on the totora boats, most of the family income, if not all, come from the tourism. Nowadays the parents are sending the new generations to schools in Puno city, some of them when they grow up, prefer to live on land, which is causing the population decreased.

If you travel to Puno, don’t forget to take the boat ride to Uros floating islands, there are different times and tours, even if you forget to book in advance, there is a big chance you will find a spot, if not high season (July-August).

I will also be nice to buy lots of handmade crafts from the locals, remember they mainly live from that, plus you will get a unique piece to remember.
