State of Decay: An Abandoned FarmhousesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hey, everybody! Yesterday we explored a farmhouse out in the country. It had been abandoned for a few years (except for a small part that's used for storage now) and fell into disrepair.

It was a hot, sunny, and humid day when we went out. As we arrived, we met with the owners. I decided to ask them if we could take some pictures to which he responded, "Yeah, of course, it'll cost you 20 bucks though." He then laughed at me and told me he was joking with me. I gave him 10 dollars anyways. As thanks for letting us use the place for a little bit. He also told us to come back during the night, the place looks even cooler. (It’s also not meltingly hot at night) Hopefully, I can get enough upvotes on this post that I can make that 10 bucks back. If not, you guys are welcome ;)

This is one building in the area, the last time I had been here it was flooded and the water was about 3 feet deep. It is filled with an assortment of tools left to rust and rot.

The outside of the feeding area, a fallen roof, and a ladder to... Nowhere? Moving on.

Half of this building's roof had collapsed in. The other half provided a much-needed relief from the sweltering heat of the summer day. In this area, there were amenities left on the wall. A dirty, nonfunctioning sink, a broken, grimy mirror, and a wasp nest covered paper towel dispenser. I decided to avoid trying to see if the sink would work in fear of something slimy and monstrous crawling out of the faucet.

The silo you see in the first photo has an opening in the bottom so I wanted to get a picture of the inside. There is a bag hanging on the inside of this that you can't really differentiate from the rest of the silo. It looked like there may have been organic matter inside of it. Anybody have any idea what it could be?

This cabinet had vials of bovine vaccines and hormones. Who knows why they left it here. Also some paint thinner and other miscellaneous stuff.

Here's a random room in the building, there is a nasty bathroom behind that door so I assumed nobody wanted a picture of it.

I assume that this building is in the state it is in currently because the profitability of cow farming became marginal for them. Perhaps some hard times came upon the owner. This is a nice piece of land that could bring high profitability if used or sold as it is in a developing area. So what is the story behind this State of Decay? Let's hear what you think.

That ends the gallery of this explore. Check out my previous posts and if you like them, stay tuned for some others. They will not disappoint you.

I like what you're doing @lacroix
Keep it up! 😉😏😎

I especially liked the pic of the grain 🌾 silo.

Where are the abandoned farm and building shots taken? What state?
Reading a lot about Illinois (and Midwest really) just falling apart economically.

Whatever the case may be there, stay safe, well and Steem on🐳!

Most of the locations I'll be posting are in South West United States. The Midwest is pretty awesome when it comes to available explores. Where about's are you located? There are some sweet places all over the world, you just have to keep your eyes open.

Right on!
And I agree there are sweet places to been seen all over.
I prefer to be in and shoot nature but the city, straight-man made lines and of course the decaying of it all, going back can be good too.

Some of my friends in and around Detroit post about the decay going on there. Trippy stuff.

I am in Thailand 🇹🇭
Originally from the states though.

Kind of cool to see some of these abandoned locations.
