Come Along [5] - Ancient City of Chiang Mai
Oh Chiang Mai, I really loved this city, it has a certain charm that is so different than the hustle of Bangkok. It’s an ancient city and the only one in Thailand where the surrounding walls are still intact. The walls separates the Old City which is the historic center of Chiang Mai from the new developments in the perimeter. Outside of the tourist activities, it's a really livable place with pretty much anything you could want readily available. From cute cafes and coffee shops, to great classic cuisines, shopping and yoga. This was my first time ever visiting so I rushed around doing all the sightseeing, but I ended up back in the city a second time towards the end of my trip and spent 2 weeks just living like a local.
After me and Josh got off the train from Bangkok we checked into the hotel and headed over to get a massage to beat the heat. My first of many Thai massages. I couldn’t get enough. I have to hand it to these ladies, they are strong!! At the end of the massage they easily bend you into a pretzel. I always get a feeling of fear right before its about to happen. But they know what they’re doing and it feels pretty good after.
As the sun cooled down we walked around and explored some of the temples in the Old City. There are a few temples all within a short walk from each other making for a great strolling tour!
WAT CHEDI LUANG
This amazing structure was built about 600 years ago. At the time it was the tallest structure in ancient Chiang Mai unfortunately due to either and earthquake or cannon fire during the reclaim of the city the top half has collapsed. Part of the chedi has been restored and it is still an active place of worship today.
It used to house the most important religious object in thailand, the emerald buddha, but now its moved to Bangkok. In place there is a jade replica. Though it no longer has the emerald buddha, the grounds Contain both the Lak Mueang the “city pillar” and the Dipterocarp tree which protects the city.
WAT PHRA SING
A very beautiful temple in Chiang Mai also known as the temple of the lion buddha. Built back in the 14th century to house the ashes of King Pha Yu’s father. Adorned with beautiful paintings and decorated with gold. The temple showcases the beautiful architecture of the Lanna time period.
With two temples down the headed to the river. We found a tasty thai restaurant near by the water to end the day.
Thanks for Coming Along!

Whoot thanks for the resteem @gaman ! ❤️
There's quite a few expats in Chiang Mai that like to retire there. As well as digital nomads, who like to use that part of Thailand as a base. It's cooler than most parts of Thailand. Lots of trendy spots in and around the city. Good write-up of the temples :)
Thanks! Yea I really liked it! Such a nice slow livable vibe. I didn't learn about Ninman district till the second time around. Really enjoyed my time there. Thanks for popping by guys!

What a beautiful sight! Thank you for sharing these pictures and taking us with you on your adventure. I heard they are building an absolutely massive scale version of Buddha somewhere in the Middle East or West Asia... I can't remember, but it is supposed to dwarf everything.
No way!?? That would be so amazing to see. They have a giant Buddha in Vietnam in Da Nang. Thanks for coming along the adventure glad you're enjoying it 😊
Yeah, suppose to be representative of the new coming Buddha. Anytime, I enjoy adventures.

Lovely post! I've heard so much about Chiang Mai and off late it's been all over social media too! I can see why. Looks like an absolute fascinating place, and very different from the other bustling parts of Thailand. Did you get a chance to go to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary? I haven't been to Thailand yet, but most probably I'm going to make it happen this year. Happy Travels! :)
