TRAVEL - Discover Palma de Majorque !

in #travel7 years ago

For good deals and addresses it's all the way down :)

In September, I spent a wonderful week in Mallorca (in the Balearic Islands ...)

If you are looking for a place not too far or too expensive, where you can party as much as discover wonderful things, I think that Mallorca may please you :)

The weather is good all the year, the flights are not excessive and you will find all the types of housing ...
Its capital is Palma de Mallorca, a major tourist point on the island and it is part of the Balearic Islands that are part of Spain.

Clearly, it is a VERY touristy city, and therefore, practical for those who do not travel much and who try not to go too far!
I loved the capital, Palma, with its architecture in the old town and especially its MAGNIFICENT Cathedral ... The narrow streets of the old town make you travel back in time. I imagined myself in the Middle Ages, walking on these cobblestones and breathing the smell of spices ...

When to the Cathedral, one of the largest and most impressive that I could see. It is a wonder externally and even more inside. You can walk but also bike because there are many bike paths on major roads but also in the city center.
Speaking of cycling, a bike path goes around the island! For the moment count a good time and a lot of motivation :)
It's so nice to walk along the coast with the sun and especially the sea mist that reaches you to the face. A bike rental is quite correct in Palma and it will be twice as easy for you to move like this!

Little extra: take your bike at night and walk along the coast watching the sunset. I stopped, sitting on the rocks and contemplated this wonder ....

As far as activities are concerned, if you have a reduced budget, street performers, some sightseeing tours or open air cinema are totally free! For small budget, you can rent a kayak, surf or pedal boat to go for a ride at sea and discover small secrets buried on the edges of the island :)

After two days, we took a taxi, 30 minutes drive to Magaluf! Called also "mini Ibiza", it is the second biggest and touristy city after Palma!
We are not going to lie, when you go there it is clearly to party from evening to morning and vice versa :) We tested but stayed only two days (and it's more than enough, I like to party well but in small doses haha)
So, if you're looking for cheap accommodation, cheap alcohol, open boxes and bars all night long, Magaluf is your city!

In the end, in a week in Mallorca, we spent only a few hours on the beach because fortunately for us, there is always something to see and do in this city. So even if you are not especially very touristy cities, do not miss a weekend in Palma to visit the wonders it has to offer ...
Good housing:
our three accommodations have been booked with Airbnb and clearly there is a huge choice! You can also book on Booking for a hotel or a dormitory.
Good hobbies:
The visit of the Cathedral is 6 euros but FREE some Sundays.
In September, a reconstruction of the battle between the two neighborhoods of Palma (Canavall and Canamunt) takes place in the city center and at the foot of the battisse. Two teams compete in a giant water fight! You can participate by registering on the Facebook or at the Tourist Office of the city.
An outdoor cinema is installed all summer at Parc de la Mar. So you can bring your pic-nic and enjoy a movie with the Cathedral in the background (for us it was Interstellar, magic!)
You can rent bikes (it's even recommended) as well as paddle boats and kayaks for really cheap.
For the rest, a lot of activities are listed on TripAdvisor (ULM, hiking, canyoning, horseback ride ...)
Watch out for tourist activities! Generally it's expensive for not much ... and then it's better to put on these shoes and go to meet the locals further from the city center, in the mountains :)
Good flights: For the flights there is for all the prices! Here are some tips so you do not have to pay a lot for your return flight.
Put roof in private connection when you book your ticket.

Be flexible on your dates (the more flexible you will be and the more you will be able to jump on bargains)
Choose your dates outside school holidays and periods of "high tourism"

Sacrifice your comfort! No you will not have an XL seat or a film in French but we do not care because you only have one to two hours of flights depending on where you take off :)
