My trip to Galway #The graveyard of ambition

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Have you ever been to a place and felt that you wanted to live there forever?
Well.. that happened to me, and after 2 weeks I could understand why this charming city is called the graveyard of ambition!

The history behind the nickname dates back from 1950s and is related to the bank career. Typically a banker would start climbing the corporate ladder in his hometown and at every promotion they would be moved to a different location, until the day when they finally reach the HQ in Dublin. But what really happened was that once they arrived in Galway, they love the city so much that they would deny a new promotion just for the sake of nothing have to be moved again.

If this is true or not, I Don't know. But talking to people on the street, is very common to hear few stories like that. People that were supposed to stay for six months and now 10 years have already passed.

So I decided to share with you some photos of this charming city, and maybe you get an ideia why people love Galway so much.

These colorful houses are located beside the Corrib River and in the summer this is a great spot to spend your afternoon. It's always flooded with people having a beer and playing some good music.

As soon as I arrived in Galway, I knew the place had something different. It seemed that life had slowed down. The Bohemian Lifestyle was everywhere.

As the taxi driver said: "Why are you gonna do today if you can leave for tomorrow"

Landscapes, seascapes, good restaurant, small local business, cozy pubs, coffee shops and a busy night life. It doesn't matter what you are looking for, Galway has it all.

The Shop Street and The Quay Street in the heart of the city. This is the place where everything happens. I Didn't really count but i believe there is more than 30 Pubs in a 300m street.

In the summer the city gets really busy, there is tourist coming to Galway from allover the world. Pubs are fully-packed at this time. If you appreciate some alcohol. I'm sure you are going to have some crazy nights. From Monday to Monday, there is always a opportunity for a pint.
