Christmas in exile or the story of Lithuanian meeting Vietnam

in #travel7 years ago

IMG_1841[1].JPGMy Christmas eve dinner was a talk over skype with my mom. We shared our news and the recent life. I had eve time from 8pm and she - 5 hours behind- at the afternoon; me in Vietnam, her in Lithuania.
Was it special, were I sad 😭- no at all. I am happy and this new experience of Christmas in Vietnam is just is. I have nothing to complain about, this was my choose.
The most impressive thing in Nha Trang of South Vietnam was that town is full of russian tourists. I am surprised how much all environment adapted to it, even vietnamese started to speak in russian. Of course basic one- counting numbers for prices.

Vietnamese people. How they are

First of all the are very cunning. They look in every situation for self benefits as on the other side they nice and gentle, but since you don't give any monetary benefit they become rude. I talk to ones who are sellers, and most of the become it, because of the tourist. They adapt fast however still on they way to improve diplomatic manner. A tourist for them a big pile of money. And interesting moment that this country is female dominated. I have seen a grandfather taking care of his young future, man at home doing the basic stuff. I had an opportunity to live in the guest house with the local family - two generations running the business. No matter a fact only young lady could communicate in english the rest not at all.
In public spaces or at the beach full of street sellers and specialy the ones with local seafood pots. There are announcements in english and russian informing to avoid the street food for possible poisoning.

Country of rice, coffee, mud and russian with chinese tourist

Apperantly I got to know that Vietnam does not produce a good chocolate. Only two companies started to do so, one of them is local in Nha Trang and have their own planation, museum. Theeir product is hand made from natural cocoa grown in there and run a native vietnamiese-canadian.
Coffee is just booming because the climate is suitable - mountains and forest the best place to be grown. The big hit is Luwak coffee, animal Civet produces coffee at the special way and the taste is great. Civet is an animal which eats fruits and its excrement's come as a delicious coffee beans. This Kopi Luwak is the most expensive coffee in the world.

Rise are everywhere, as Vietnam is the leading country of rise plantations. As I spent my time in Malaysia for the past five months I was consciously avoiding it, because rice goes with every meal possible. Noodles as an option, however I learnt that noodles are the best when they are hand made or rice, other than that like vermoceli or fast cooked ones are not suitable because they duration has no ending date, meaning its artificial.

Mud
Yep, mud baths and spas are amazing for rejuvenating the body. Together with mineral water and waterfalls is just the natural what it could be.

Seafood
You name it, loooots of unknown delicacy directly from the sea. Fresh and yummy.

My keywords for south vietnam: coffee, seafood, mud.

Chinese people

Nonetheless is a matter to mention chinese people who come here, blow everything. For them its cheap as for nothing. So the prices have few ranges for tourists: russians and chinese. Local like russians more as they say they are nice and less loud, noisy, clean comparing with chinese. There is a saying when the chinese step into the grass, only the mud left after..

At the end of the day, I feel very advantageous that I understand and speak russian, its easy to relate with russians. A biggest part of them are coming from Siberia, Vladivostok to feel some summer from their -30C.

Vietnam is developing rapidly. On a way back to the airport of Cam Ranh I saw lots of development of international brands like Radisson, Movenpick and the list goes on.

Wondering and curious how Nha Trang will look in few years.

New Year 2018

I had an opportunity to celebrate in public main square. There were available restaurants with special meniu and entertaining program for russians specifically. I decided to experience locally. At the main square next to Lotus, was a stage and a concert with firework followed after the midnight techno disco lasting 15 minutes. The lights shut down and all was over - Happy New Year, my dear friend.

down below with Santa Claus and Sniegurachka from Vladivostok. They brought their costumes for this special event :)
