From the beginning of autumn to the end of the fall, I just look for the most beautiful maple leaves
In previous years, the fall was in the province of Ontario, but this year the weather was unusually warm and the maple leaf was kept up until the map was green. When the leaves in Toronto did not change color in early October, the temporary clapper decided to go north all the way to the discoloration of the leaves, and it was finally harvested in Quebec.
History of Quebec
Quebec is truly a special place. It is the only province in Canada where the official language is French. After entering Québec, almost no English signboard could see one, and there was simply a feeling of going abroad. Why is it such a situation? We must turn the camera back to the beginning of the 16th century.
In 1535, the French explorer Jacques Catia took his fleet across the Atlantic Ocean into the Gulf of St. Lawrence in eastern Canada, then in the name of the French king, announced the occupation of this place, and named this place as New France. Because of the cold weather, only a few fur traders will come here. It was not until Samuel de Champ Orchid had built New France (now Quebec City) into a decent city for thirty years, the local population gradually increased.
Unfortunately, it did not last long. In 1763, the "seven-year war" between France and Britain drew to a close. Victory in the United Kingdom renamed the new France Quebec (Indian "fjord" means). In order to appease local French descendants, the British Parliament passed the Québec Act, which allows local people to preserve their language, culture, and religious beliefs.
Although Québec became a part of the Canadian nation in 1867, it has always maintained a maverick style. In 1977, Quebec adopted the "French Charter", consolidating French as the only official language. Then there were many times of independence. Although the referendum failed, it has won many autonomy rights.
Why do autumn leaves change color?
The colors of Canada's autumn come mainly from birch trees and maple trees, both of which are deciduous trees. In autumn, the temperature decreases and sunshine decreases. In order to prepare for the winter, the trees ceased to produce chlorophyll, the green color of the leaves gradually receded, and other pigments, such as yellow carotene in birch trees, were highlighted. At the same time, in order to allow the leaves to fall off naturally, the sugar at the root of the leaf is blocked and cannot be returned. Sugar reacts with proteins in cells to produce purple-red anthocyanins (as in purple sweet potatoes). So the maple leaves turn red. As for why it turns red, scientists have not yet reached a conclusion. It is said that it is for sun protection. It is said to warn insects.
When can I see the red leaves?
At this time, some people may want to ask questions. I don't care why the maple leaves turn red. I just want to know when I can see the red maple leaf. This is actually not very easy to say. It was mentioned that the discoloration of the leaves depends on the effects of sunlight and low temperature, and in particular it requires low temperatures close to 0 degrees at night. The Maple Leaf period in Canada (Ontario and Quebec) varies from mid-September to the end of October each year.
It is very important that not only the Maple Leaf period of each year is different, but even if the Maple Leaf begins to turn red, the time required from red to full penetration is not the same. In addition, if it rains for a few days in a row, it is easy to knock out the leaves. Therefore, the state of mind is very important. If you want to see the best maple leaves, you will often be disappointed. If you take a little peace and see what you see, you will have surprises.
