Travel Ideas: Campuestohan Highland Resort’s life-size attractions - Negros, Philippines

Unknown to most people, Negros Occidental has a tourist attraction that will surely bring the child in anyone alive.

The Campuestohan Highland Resort has been the pride of Talisay City, Neg. Or., since it opened its doors to the public.

For years, the resort was just a dream of its founder, Ricardo "Cano" Tan and wife Nita, until the 5-hectare property was developed into what it is today.

The family developed the property throughout the years in portions. Opening each section as it is completed.

The resort resembles the ambiance and cool atmosphere of Baguio and Tagaytay Cities in Luzon.

But what makes it very unique are the life size cartoon and movie characters (Kung Fu Panda, King Kong, Jaws, among others) spread throughout the resort and structures based on beloved nursery and bedtime stories that we've grown to love when we were kids.

One would also love staying in rooms, artistically made and decorated fantasy houses.

One room we had was good for at least 4-5 guests with its humongous bed that covers at least 80% of the room. This is good for family and friends to share. We had 3 rooms reserved for our group, each having at least 4-5 occupants.

Though the room only had fans, the cool atmosphere proved to be the best air-conditioning especially at night.

Another group of rooms is designed to look like huts of the Native American Indians in America. These rooms are more spacious and had air-conditioning units and can accommodate more guests. One can also choose the traditional cabin rooms located uphill.

But what I really love about the place is the very big comfort room. It’s quite mind boggling how each has such spacious area thought the rooms look very small outside. Paying at least P2, 500 for each room is a bargain with what you'll get and experience from it.

The neatly trimmed and maintained grass also makes every morning special for any guests when you wake up. The cool breeze from the surrounding mountain and the jaw-dropping sunrise will also take your breath away.

The resort also has a life-size display of King Kong complete with helicopter and airplane wreckage where you can pose as one of Kong's friends and foe.

A few meters from the Kong display is the Shark Wave pool where you can enjoy artificial waves. It also has a Minion Bubble Shower which kids and those young at heart would surely enjoy.

Shark Wave Pool also has life-size shark displays from Steven Spielberg’s beloved Jaws movie.

For thrill seekers, the resort also offers rides and fun activities for all ages.

My personal favourite is the hamster wheel cable ride where we need to walk on a cable wire using a life-size hamster wheel, suspended 5 floors up. A nerve racking activity that would surely test your mind and body. While you are at it, you can be mesmerized by the view and the fresh air from above.

Rides and activity fees range from at least P50-P300. In my experience, rides and the activities are perfectly safe and are manned by at least 2 staffs. Very young guests are not allowed to experience some of the rides for safety purposes.

Though some part of the resort is still under development, management ensures that it would not affect the guests stay and experience. Each area is well cordoned and safe. A few of those being developed is another set of animal rooms that can accommodate more guests and windmill were huge events can be done.
