Hacks To Travel on A Budget

One thing I wish I had done when I was a lot younger(meaning straight out of high school) is to travel a lot more, but its never too late right. I’m in my prime anyway if you ask me! There are however a few tips I have learned along the way that can help you travel the world at low cost.

Create a travel vision board. Some of the locations I have been blessed to be on were all because I had envisioned it. You know what they say about writing down the vision, well I always keep mine in sight and when the opportunity comes right along I will be very prepared for it.
Sign up for newsletters. This will increase your chances of discovering flight and location deals for the places you might want to visit or you might even discover newer locations. I would recommend signing up for Skyscanner. This is a great site if you are not fussy about your travel locations and you just want to travel the world on a good deal. Edreams is also great for booking international flights, they occasionally have promotions running which you can also maximize on.
Social Media. Follow social media pages for various airlines. It’s just a click right. On some airlines, you might be fortunate to find ‘glitch fares’ between destinations and that would just be a great opportunity to go and explore a location you were not even focusing on.
Arrange a group trip. Traveling in a group is a great way to save up on a lot of expenses. It’s a lot easier to get cheaper accommodation and book for various activities at a fraction of what it would cost you by yourself. Its a lot more fun and a great way of traveling without having to break the bank.
Maximize on your contacts. Ask your friends or family if they have any contacts in the location of your choice. This could help you save a lot as you may be able to find someone to take you around and also save on accommodation expenses.
Don’t be too fancy. You can crush on someone’s couch, you can use the bus or metro and you can also pick cheaper secondary accommodation or a smaller hotel for your stay.
Travel in off peak season. This will help cut your expenses a lot as the prices will be a lot less as compared to when there is a travel rush. You will still get to have a nice time and tick a location off of your bucket list for just a fraction of the normal price.
Sign up for trips that offer fixed costs. This is a great way to pay for something in advance and not incur unnecessary expenses when you arrive at you chosen destination. Most of these trips would be inclusive of stay, activities, and airfare so all you will have to do is show up and have a good time.
Visit areas closer to you. You can wake up and fill up your gas tank and just travel to a different place for a few hours. This is an inexpensive way of rejuvenating yourself and traveling. Pick a spot that allows you to participate in a few activities and enjoy your time away.
Be a part of a community of travelers. Being with like minded people increases your chances of you tackling your bucket list a lot more faster.
I gave up on the idea that you only earn a living through a brick and mortar job. The world is changing and so is the way people experience travel. I have since joined a group of people who literally get paid to travel. While some are still pessimistic about this opportunity others are using travel to earn a living. Be on the lookout for such programs in your local area and you just might change the number of vacations you have in a year if you ever have any that is.

Great post. I'll use the info in my next trip.
Thanks :D

Great, glad it helped

How old are you? :)
We are 34 and just started to travel this and last year...never had enough money when we were younger and as of now we can still do it as we don't have children yet. If you have children, it will get harder due to commitments etc.

But no, it's never too late to travel :) Nice blog post!

Thank you. I am truning 30 in a few months. I do intend to travel a lot more before I have any kids

Thank you for your post. My dream is to live in a different country every 6 months, so this info is very handy.
