hiking up lions head for sunset with no food or water for 12 hrs!!

Hey Steemit Friends

So yeah I went hiking up lions head while fasting, meaning I couldn’t drink or snack until sunset.

South Africa Cape Town is in my top three destinations I have been to in the world. One of the reasons is that the city has been blessed with plenty of climbable mountains. On my list of places to climb Lions Head for sunset or sun rise is amazing. It is one of Cape Town’s most popular mountains to hike. The reason is it is said to be one of the easiest to do.
We took an Uber from our hostel. The starting point of the hike is at Signal Hill Road which is at the base of Forestry Road. It is an easy hike so doesn’t take too long but you should expect it to take around 2.5 to 3 hours, this including time it would take you to stop along the way and at the top for the sunset. The last part becomes quite steep and needs the use of chains and the random ladder to climb up certain sections.

The thing I love about the Lion’s Head hike is the full 360 degree view of Cape Town as you make your way around the winding trail. From the City Bowl, Devils peak, Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostle Mountain range, the Camps Bay and Clifton Beaches, Robben Island and the V&A Waterfront.

Take some decent walking shoes, and if you think you’ll need it, some water, however your body only hydrates after 45mins, so rather drink water throughout the day, and you’ll have less to carry up. Take a flashlight and enjoy the sunset and city lights.

Things to Remember:

  1. Have a warm top because it can get a little cold at the peak and on the way down after sunset.
  2. Closed shoes would be a good idea.
  3. Bring your camera because there will absolutely be a picture-perfect moment along the walk and there is nothing worst then missing a good photo.. Or in my case being in one!
  4. Pack a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
  5. For safety I would try to go with a hiking partner; just in case! A story why you should go with someone and not leave them is below in my video. It is actually only funny because we found the lady.
  6. Bring a torch or headlamp for the walk down after the sun has gone down.
