Merry Christmas from myself and the sharks (blog and video)

in #travel7 years ago

Hey Steemit friends

Have I got a story for you, oh yeah and an amazing video. So as you can guess from the title it about sharks. I could finally tick off my bucket list white shark cage diving. CLICK below for the second video of me shark cage diving because the first time we were unlucky and didn’t see any sharks.

It's the ultimate adventure. i never thought I would go white shark diving in my life. Yet here I was heading to Gansbaai early in the morning in a van and freezing winter. Lucky we were one of the first ones to get picked up so i got to sit in the front seat. Perfect spot for vlogging but could hardly sleep because when you sit in the front see you are also the copilot. So I had to make sure to keep the driver awake whilst we drive.

We got there so early the sun hadn’t even rise yet but the trip comes with free breakfast, so made sure to drink plenty hot drinks. Whilst we were having breakfast we were briefed about what was going to happen.

The crew started mixing fish gut and blood into the water to attract the sharks and when the first one arrived, the enjoyment mounted. It was time to get in the cage and see them for ourselves. Once we were out we got them beautiful words I wanted to hear “shark shark”. The captain said who would like to go in first my friends and I volunteered happily. We changed so fast and then climbed in the cage off the Coast of South Africa to witness these creatures in person. Normally people would be sacred of this creature of the ocean and for some reason, I was excited. Diving in the cage with the Great white shark is an very exciting experience. When we went down we didn’t use any scuba equipment as the sharks are scared off by the bubbles. The sharks come to the surface anyway, you simply hold your breath and dive down when the guide tells you to. You have to be fast though. I got to see the sharks from the water and from the boat which was amazing.

Sadly, sharks are the most mistaken creatures in the world and they are actually nearly getting extinction. Around 40 million sharks are killed each year for their fins to feed the Asian Market's desire for shark fin soup. Great white sharks can reach a length of 5-6 meters, but sighting that big is becoming fewer each year. It is the big sharks that are being slaughtered fast, and since a female shark needs to be 4 meters long before she can mate, that means they stopping the reproduction process.

Diving with these magnificence creatures is not only a pleasure, but it helped us to better understand the shark as most great white shark attacks are non-fatal. Humans are not a part of the shark’s food chain.
