[Croatia Adventure] Anyone here a Game of Thrones fan? [A must visit for GoT fans!]

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hi Fellow Steemians!

I'm back with another episode of my Croatia Adventure! This will be the last stop of this series and it's taking place in Dubrovnik, a coastal town on the Southern side of Croatia. For this last stop I'll be doing it in two parts, one for the GoT fans, and one for everyone that loves a great view.

First of all, at a bit about Dubrovnik. The city was built on maritime trade and during the Middle Ages was the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice. It underwent a substantial development during the 15th and 16th centuries with the support of its vast wealth and skillful diplomacy. In addition, Dubrovnik was the home of many notable poets, playwrights, painters, mathematicians, physicists and other scholars that pushed the development of the Croatian language and literature.

Today Dubrovnik can be said to be Croatia's main tourist destination and one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean. From as early as the 19th century it was chosen by celebrities as a must-visit destination of Dubrovnik. Royalty, presidents and diplomats all favour the city and even the late Pope John Paul II was fan.

For the GoT Fans! and everyone else too :)

Whether you’re a fan of House Lannister or House Stark, Dubrovnik’s ancient stone walls and rounded towers will feel like home for any enthusiast of HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones. The Croatian walled city is set as the location for King’s Landing, the capital city of Westeros and epicentre of many of the series’ most memorable political feuds.

You can also go on the city walls!

As well as boasting some beautiful hidden spots for a swim, the ruins of the island’s Benedictine monastery were used as the set for the city of Qarth. Nowadays the monastery houses a Game of Thrones museum with pictures and exhibitions about the filming and a genuine Iron Throne prop! Boats leave Dubrovnik every half hour during the summer, with the last boast departing from Lokrum at 5pm, when the island shuts down for the night.

The island can easily be seen from an elevated position

Dream come true!

If you ever need a place to relax...

I'm not finished with Dubrovnik! The next post about Dubrovnik will be about where you can get the best view of it, it really is a must-do while you're there.
But, I'll have to postpone that post since I'm going to Portugal tomorrow! So for the next week it'll be posts about Portgual while I'm there so stay tuned! I'll post the last Croatia Adventure episode once I get back :)
