Skipper Peter

For the past year and a half I have been the skipper of a canal boat operating from a restaurant on Marina Glades in the resort town of St Francis Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa. With the summer season nearly here I am expecting thousands of holiday makers to descend upon this normally quiet town.

The Canal Boat Moored At Quaysyde Restaurant

My canal trip takes about an hour and we wind our way around the waterways for five kilometres. The boat can take up to twelve persons and in season I sometimes do four trips a day.

The passengers enjoy the scenery and take lots of photos. Some trips are comprised of family reunions and others are celebrating an event or a year end function. Also popular are the sunset cruises. Our boat is sometimes used for ferrying guests to weddings on the beach.

We also work in conjunction with other canal boat operators on Marina Glades.

A highlight is a trip to Secret Beach where access is by boat from the canals. Many a wedding has been held there.

It's just a climb over the Spit on the wooden stairs and walkway and you right on the beach.
