Dubrovnik - Beautiful city in Croatia which every Game of Thrones fan should know

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Are you fan of the Game of Thrones series? Yes? So you should see this post about a beautiful city in Croatia where a lot of locations and scenes from the series are shooted.

Was your answer "No"? Never mind! You can just enjoy the beautiful architecture and view in the city so stay with me :)

Last year we were on a trip there. The historic city is wonderful, and it is worth of visit. Nevertheless, we forgot to check some scenes from GoT before the trip, so we didn't see or recognize them so we could not shot them :( Most of the photos I got from the internet :(

This post may content spoilers - a few scenes from series 2 to 6.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a city on the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Dalmatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea and a seaport. Thanks to its history and monuments it belongs to the UNESCO since 1979.

The first record about the city is from the 12th century. Its name refers to Slavic word "dubrava" which means "oak forest." There are more theories about the name, but I like this one the most.

Dubrovnik was the main filming location in Croatia for King’s Landing - a fictional city in Game of Thrones.

Fort Lovrijenac

Fort Lovrijenac (Fort of St. Lawrence) is located at the western side of the Old Town, outside the city walls on a 37 meters high cliff.

Old City of Dubrovnik

The old town, the ancient city center, is a monument in itself. It consists almost exclusively of historically significant buildings, some of which date back to the Middle Ages and represent Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque architecture.

Commented tour

There is also a tour for GoT fans. We didn't buy it because we were out of money :D but we saw it in action. Guides accompanied a group of tourists through Dubrovnik with pictures of some scenes from the series and told some information about it.
Offered tours you can see at www.dubrovniktours.tours.

If you want to see more information, pictures and scenes from the Game of Thrones, you can visit King's Landing Dubrovnik.

Never seen Game of Thrones but still an interesting post and photos. Thanks

Thank you too! The city has a lot to offer on its own, but thanks to GoT and Star Wars it is even more popular.

They sell awesome, big portions of ice cream there. You have to taste them if you are there!

When we were there, it was a rainy day. A storm caught us when we were on the walls. We were wet to the bones, so the icecream was not even thought. The only advantage was that there were not so many people and the main street, which is normally full of people was empty :D

Empty Dubrovnik may be even better than the ice creams! :-)

i am gonna visit soon

That's great!
