Hotel Henry, Venice
This is the worst hotel I've ever been in. It certainly doesn't warrant a 2 star rating. In fact it’s more suited to a Hostel.
We booked via Laterooms.com for 5 nights not including breakfast (which was fine) but was expecting the usual other amenities to be included (i.e. air conditioning, safe, Wi-Fi access and TV. All the rooms with bathroom are equipped of accessories for toilette and hair dryer.) as stated on their website https://www.hotelhenry.it/en
Instead we ended up with a room 8 feet by 8 feet with an old wardrobe, twin saggy beds and no room for our suite case. We even struggled to find a mains power socket (it was hidden by one of the beds against the wall).
As soon as we walked in we were hurried in by a sleazy looking receptionist who was over keen in helping us. He even warned us before he showed us the room that it was a little on the small size. Hence upon seeing the room we weren’t impressed and tried to get the rate reduced from 90 Euro’s as we didn’t think it was worth this. At this point he started making excuses about the fact that the price wouldn’t have been 90 Euros if we had booked directly with the hotel. It would have been 60 Euros instead and the other 30 Euros unfortunately was the commission for lateroom.com.
This was a lie as the minimum price on their website is 90 Euros (I have used laterooms before and have never paid them commission)
In fact the receptionist lied to us as soon as we walked in to the place. We knew at this point that we would lose our money if we left as it stated in terms and conditions that you can only get a full refund if you cancelled 5 days before, nevertheless I tried my luck with the receptionist with no success. He had recommended that we at least stayed the night so that we could chat to the manager, who was in the next morning and possibly arrange for an upgrade to another hotel in their chain for an extra 40Euros per night. Because I’m of Italian origin and was communicating with him in Italian he was playing the sympathetic role by consoling me that he was doing everything in his power to help a fellow Italian, which was complete nonsense. He told me that I would not be able to find alternative accommodation in Venice as everyone was fully booked including themselves due to the Carnival. Again this was complete nonsense as I had sneaked out earlier and had already found alternative accommodation at Hotel Alle Guglie just around the corner ( a 3 star Hotel with on suite shower, air conditioning, double bed, safe, TV and Breakfast Included at 55 euros a night, OUR SAINT AND SAVIOUR AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).
At this point I ended the conversation abruptly, got my wife in the hotel room, grabbed our suited cased, cut my loses and left.
Avoid this place at all costs. It is a disgrace. HOTEL ALLOGGI HENRY E LA VERGOGNA DI VENEZIA E D' ITALIA!!!!!!!
