Welcome to the weekend. It should be a relatively quiet weekend for travelers as airline loads remain light, and companies continue to cut flights. There are two major US airports with major, non-weather related delays. Anyone traveling will need to pay attention to these delay programs as it could make an impact to your travel plans.

LAS, Las Vegas International is experiencing significant delays of around 8 hours due to a lack of staffing. I do not have exact information about what staffing is creating the issue. I would guess that LAS has a limited number of Air Traffic Controllers due to COVID-19 callouts. This may be a similar situation that we saw at MDW just a few days ago.

AVOID TRAVEL TO LAS IF POSSIBLE

SLC, Salt Lake City International is experiencing delays of about 1 hour as the airport continues to recover from Wednesday's earthquake in the city. The earthquake still had a tremendous impact on operations yesterday as most flights into and out of SLC were cancelled. There are still many cancellations at SLC today. Anyone who is flying into SLC will need to contact their airline about possible rescheduling. Your flight has likely been impacted. SLC is a major HUB for Delta airlines, it is likely that you will be impacted by the earthquake if you are flying Delta, even if you are not going through SLC. Contact the airline before travel!

RSW, Fort Myers is experiencing delays of around 30 minutes due to high volumes. This should be cleared up soon.

Air travel around the globe continues to be significantly impacted by the continued Coronavirus Pandemic. Before traveling, you should consider the health risks, closely monitor guidance and recommendations by health authorities at your destination and at home, and get up to date information from your airline about possible delays, cancellations, and changes in flight schedules.
