Having Dinner at Izakaya🍻

Japan's Izakaya is a bar which usually open at 6 pm and get the last order at 11 pm, closes at 11:30 pm. It seems different with Korea's drink culture because it is rare the bars open late time.

You can think of Izakaya as a place where you can have a simple dinner and a couple of drinks after work.

When I was studying at university in Japan, I worked at Izakaya as a part time job. A lot of international students have part time jobs in Izakaya. The reason why is it’s easy to get a job and you can still work after school, there is also fun to work and pay is good as well. When I worked there, it was already 5 ~ 6 years ago, but the hourly pay was 1,000 yen which is $10.

My parents were so worried and felt sad about my job at that time...Haha. Because in the past, people who're working at a bar have to work late at night and there was a lot of drunken customers in Korea. When I visited Fukuoka recently, I thought that I should go to Izakaya with my Mother and show her what Izakaya is!

The hotel we stayed this time located at Hakata Station. At night, it wasn’t that difficult to find business man who wearing a dress shirt sitting at Izakaya drinking Namabiru(craft beer) with dinner! My Mother saw it and she said she wants to go there.

There were many big and fancy Izakaya around HakataStation, but we visited relatively small and quiet place. The Izakaya we visited was a place specializing in kushiyaki(skewers). However, there were many other menus such as sashimi, grilled fish, and Motsunabe(traditional soup). When we visited there we were already so full, so we ordered only a few kushiyaki(skewers) for beers.

Once you get into the Izakaya you can order a drink first. We ordered Asahi bottled beer.

After you order your drink they’ll get you Otoshi(compulsory appetizers) first. We got Nikujaga(meat and potato) as an Otoshi. It wasn’t bad for an appetizer.

We ordered Tsukune(chicken meatballs), Reba(liver), pork belly, Bonjiri(chicken tail) first. It was so soft and tasty not SALTY!!!! :)

We ordered one more time. Nankotsu(chicken cartilage) and Bacon cheese and one more Tsukune. My favorite is Bonjiri(chicken tail) <3 But I can’t find easily in Korea, so I have to eat it when I’m in Japan.

At the end, I ordered triangle rice ball. It looks little bit plain but it was literally amazing. The rice was warm and nice and the seaweed taste so crispy!! Sometimes the simple taste is the best!!

If I could stay in Japan little bit longer, I would go there again and try sashimi, and other skewers. Well… I guess I should go back again ;)

일본의 이자카야는 일본의 선술집으로 보통 오후6시에 오픈하여 저녁11시쯤 라스트오더를 받고 11시 30분쯤 마감하는 경우가 대부분이에요. 일본은 늦게까지 하는 영업하는 이자카야가 드물다 보니 술문화 자체가 한국과는 조금 다른거 같아요. 일본인에게 이자카야는 퇴근 후 잠시 들러 간단한 저녁식사와 함께 생맥주 한잔 하는 곳 이라고 생각하시면 될 거 같아요~!

저는 일본에서 대학교를 다녔는데, 그때 이자카야에서 아르바이트를 했었어요~! 수 많은 유학생들이 이자카야에서 주로 아르바이트를 해요. 그 이유는 일을 구하기도 쉬울 뿐만 아니라 방과후에도 할 수 있기 때문에 시간대도 딱 적당하고, 페이도 좋은 편이며, 일하는 재미도 있기 때문이에요~! 제가 알바를 했을 당시 벌써 5~6년전인데도 시급이 1,000엔으로 우리나라 돈 10,000원 정도였답니다. 요새는 더 오른거 같아요^^

제가 이자카야에서 아르바이트를 한다고 했을때 저희 부모님께서 너무 속상해 하셨어요…^^;; 예전엔 한국의 호프집 하면 만취된 진상손님들도 많고 밤 늦게까지 일해야 하는 힘든 직업이였기 때문에 걱정을 많이 하셨던거죠. 그런 엄마의 오해를 풀어드리기 위해 이번에 후쿠오카를 갔을때 꼭 모시고 이자카야를 가야겠다 생각했어요~!

저희 숙소는 하카타역 바로 옆이였는데 저녁시간만 되면 와이셔츠를 입은 회사원들이 이자카야에 앉아 저녁식사와 함께 나마비루(생맥주)를 마시고 있는것을 어렵지 않게 볼 수 있었습니다~! 엄마께서도 그걸 보시더니 가보고 싶다 하시더라구요.

하카타역 주변엔 크고 화려한 이자카야들도 많이 있었는데, 저희는 비교적 한적하고 작은 가게를 방문했어요. 이 집은 쿠시야키(꼬치구이)를 전문으로 하는 곳 이였습니다. 그렇지만 사시미나, 생선구이, 모츠나베등의 다양한 메뉴들이 있어 골라먹는 맛이 있더라구요. 저희는 배가 좀 부른 상태로 갔기 때문에 딱 안주가 될 수 있는 꼬치정도만 주문을 했어요. 일단 들어가자마자 맥주를 시킵니다. 저희는 아사히 병맥주로 주문을 했어요.

맥주를 시키면 오토오시(기본안주)가 나오는데요, 일본에선 어느 이자카야를 가던 자동으로 주문이 들어가요. 오토오시로는 보통 에다마메가 나오기도 하고 양배추가 나오기도 하는데 오늘은 니쿠쟈가(고기감자조림) 같은게 나왔네요. 기본안주 치고 나쁘지 않았어요^^

저희가 주문한 꼬치는 츠쿠시(미트볼), 레바(닭 간), 삼겹살, 본지리(닭 엉덩이)를 처음 주문하고 두번째로 난코츠(닭 연골)과 치즈 베이컨 말이, 맛있어서 츠쿠시를 하나 더 주문했어요.

본지리라는 꼬치는 닭의 엉덩이? 꼬리 부분인데요, 제가 제일 좋아하는 부위에요 헤헷…ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 한국에선 쉽게 먹을 수 없어서 일본에 가면 꼭 먹어야 해요~!! 정말 엉덩이 처럼 보들보들한 맛이랍니다.

짭조름한 꼬치를 먹고 있으니 밥 생각이 나서 마지막으로 명란 삼각김밥을 시켰어요~! 직접 만든 삼각김밥은 밥이 고슬고슬하면서 따끈따끈 하고 김은 바삭바삭 하니, 명란젓은 하나도 비리지 않아 말 그대로 예술이더라구요. 가끔씩은 이렇게 심플한 맛이 가장 맛있는거 같아요~!!

일본에 좀 길게 머물렀다면 다시한번가서 사시미도 시켜보고 전골도 시켜보고 이것저것 다른 꼬치들도 먹어봤음 좋았을텐데 너무 안타까워요~! 음… 아무래도 날씨가 풀리면 다시한번 일본에 가야겠어요^^
