SPOTTED #1: The Smallest Auto in the World

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

This post is pretty much inspired by the SPOTTED series of our famous Fulltime Steemit Blogger @knozaki2015!

Walking the streets of Lviv I've spotted something interesting I wanted to show you this time.

I bet you thought that the smallest auto in the world is Smart Automobile produced by Daimler AG. You were wrong :D

Meet the Smallest Auto in the World: Peel P50!

From wikipedia:

The Peel P50 is a three-wheeled microcar originally manufactured from 1962 to 1965 by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man. It was listed in the 2010 Guinness World Records as the smallest production car ever made.[3] It had no reverse gear, but a handle at the rear allows the very lightweight car to be physically manoeuvred when required.

Designed as a city car, it was advertised in the 1960s as capable of seating "one adult and a shopping bag". The vehicle's only door was on its left side and equipment included a single windscreen wiper and one headlight. Standard colours were Daytona White, Dragon Red, and Dark Blue. The 1963 model retailed for £199 when new (about £1,400 in 2010, or US$2,200). The company produced 50 P50s and only 27 are known to still exist, one of which was sold for a record US$176,000 at a Sotheby's auction in March 2016.

Some more statistics from wikipedia:

At 54 in (1,372 mm) long and 39 in (991 mm) wide[6] and with an unladen weight of 59 kilograms (130 lb), the P50 holds the record as the smallest car ever to go into production.[3]

I knew I've spotted extremely rare auto, but when I saw it I didn't know that it's one of 50 P50s ever produced!!!

I don't know how come it is standing on the street of an ordinary Ukrainian city, but it was really amazing to see that original auto there...

Nice find? You see how I'm giving you more and more incentives to come to that awesome city :D

I didn't have opportunity for a test drive, nor seen this one cute auto in action, so here is some great video from BBC for you:

Hope you enjoyed my post! Perhaps you also seen this car somewhere?

Wow, that's a great find. Thank you for sharing this post. I didn't know that there was a car that small. It would have been great to have car of that size when trying to park in a city like New York City where it can be really hard to find parking.

There are some funny things in the video I've posted, I mean about parking :D
