Yashas' Travelogue #23- Long Neck Women Village Of Northern Thailand
Northern Thailand is where the actual Thailand is, full of rich culture and tradition of Thailand. This is one such experience of riding through the world famous Mae Hong Son Loop and Golden Triangle Loop.
Nature has many thing to offer us and sometime we as human beings try to over power nature and that is something very sad. However some customs are to be respected and today I am bringing you one such custom.
Karen tribe of Northern Thailand is known for their special tradition of women having long neck. It is not a natural phenomenon but a man made one. Once a girl child is born and attains a stable standing position she is made to undergo a permanent neck elongation.
A very heavy metal casing is wrapped around her neck and the length of the metal casing is gradually increased over time. Until the neck reaches a required elongation level. Strange tradition but it is famous world over and I was shocked to such a transformation happening.
