The beautiful South Africa

I am often amazed at how beautiful South Africa is. Is natural splendour is amazing. From the majestic space of the semi desert in the heart of the land called the Karoo to the forested beauty of Kwazulu Natal, The South Cape and Mpumalanga.

The Karoo

The meaning of the word is derived from the Khoi word garo, meaning dry land or desert. It is arid, with massive open spaces and is very sparsely populated. It has incredible sunsets and if you want to get away from people, then this is the place to do it. It is punctuated with small towns, each with a unique character.

The Southern Cape
Rich in settler history, the Southern Cape, with George as capital and Knysna one of its jewels was at the heart of the South African part of the English Empire. With its massive indigenous forest, many of the trees were used to help maintain the English navy.

With amazing mountains, a beautiful coastline and green pastures surrounding the forests in this area, there is just one word to describe this part of the world. Picturesque.

Kwazulu Natal

Formerly known by its English name, Natal, it now shows its history by incorporating the local people, the Zulu, a warrior tribe that was the most powerful military force in Southern Africa before 1800. The coastline is wonderful for swimming with the long beaches and warm ocean, and the weather is temperate to tropical most of the year. Also known for the largest mountain range in Southern Africa, the Dragons (dragon) Berg range is a wonderful place to ski in the winter and climb in the summer.

Mapumulanga
Translated as the place where the sun rises, this province is known for its mountainous region, and wild game. The jewel of South African parks, the Kruger National Park is found in this province, and with amazing little towns like Pilgrims Rest and Sabie, there is much to see and explore
