-The 24 hour Stopover travel blog - Negombo (SRI LANKA)! - (Life of a flight attendant) / Paradas de 24 horas por el mundo Negombo (Sri Lanka) (El diario de un auxiliar de vuelo)

Good morning steemians, back again with another short 24h trip with work, this time to the lovely town of Negombo!

Only a quick 4h flight to this destination, so a nice and easy day of work for me! Negombo is a modest beach town located just 10km from Bandaranaike International Airport, the main airport of Sri Lanka.

After arriving to the hotel, I gathered together a couple of other crew members who were up for spending the day out in the lovely weather that the day had to offer us, we headed out of the hotel, and straight away we found a "tuk tuk" parked up waiting to find customers so we jumped straight in.

We asked to be taken to the beach to see if we could find somewhere nice to eat, he took us to a place that he said he would like to recommend. When we arrived he seemed to know the owner so I thought "well obviously he is just probably on commission or its his family business..." but we were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. The owner of the restaurant was there working also, and was a very friendly man that was keen to chat to us and to talk proudly about his country. If spice is not your thing, I have to say you will probably not be in the best place in the world to eat, they absolutely love their spice and put it on everything!

As you can see, beautiful dark sand, not many tourists around, but lots of local families doing their own thing.

The restaurant owner recommended to go to the fishing market, each day, fishers take their oruvas (outrigger canoes) and go out in search of the fish for which Negombo is famous. There is a fish auction on everyday, but it is held at 6am and we were very late for that, but its still worth a visit to just the market although it can be a bit of a slippery and smelly affair.

Next stop was the more rural areas, I wanted to stop at one of the many canals the town has. The Dutch had captured the town from the Portuguese in 1640 and left these canals as an obvious dutch footprint, anyone that has been in The Netherlands knows what I mean.

We had a walk around the town center, stopping for a couple of cold beers along the way to cool off (any excuse) and finished our trip later that evening to go and get some well deserved rest.

Negombo is a place that is well worth stopping by if you ever travel to Sri Lanka. People are very friendly and willing to help you out with directions or just simply chat with you and ask you where you are from. Prices are very low and quality of food and service very high! Sri Lanka is not so full of tourists as other destinations with such paradisiac beaches and I really hope it stays like that!

Please feel free to ask any questions!

Take care guys!
