Family Trip to Puerto Rico and randomly running into Luke Stokes!

in #travel6 years ago

My family and I just returned from an 8 day trip to Puerto Rico. To say we had a great time would be a massive understatement. This was not our first time to the island. My wife's grandpa lives there and we try and visit once every two years, but this was the first time we went as a family of four and also let the in-laws tag along. We were a little nervous as to what condition the island would be in considering we had not been there since Maria hit, but things seemed to be back to normal for most people. There is obviously still things that need to be done, but life is resuming for most.

Traveling with a 4 and 2 year old can be tough. We, however, lucked out with our kids. They were wonderful on the flights and their behavior throughout the trip, for toddlers, was close to perfection.

Before I share photos of our trip I have to tell a quick story. The world is truly a small place! I follow @Lukestokes on Steemit. My brother @intothewild got me following him when I joined Steemit a couple years back. I knew he moved his family from Nashville to Puerto Rico this past year, but never did I think I would run into him. But what do you know?!?! We went to a Luquillo ocean side bar restaurant for dinner and drinks. I went to the bar to see about getting a table. As I was looking around I see a face of someone I have never met, but see all the time on Steemit. I walked up to him and asked, "Are the the world famous Luke Stokes on Steemit?" I caught him off guard as he was eating with his family and friends, but he stated he was and it was crazy to run into others from the site. We shared a brief conversation, snapped a quick photo and I let him get back to his evening. I have always enjoyed running into "famous" people (athletes, actors, media personalities, etc.) running into a social media crypto block chain witness was just as cool. Luke was down to earth and very gracious to share those brief minutes with me. Thanks Luke! Beautiful family btw.

The picture Luke and I took in Puerto Rico

Over the 8 days we spent in Puerto Rico we accomplished a lot. I think we put over 1,000 miles on the rental car. Staying in Rio Grande we had a 90 minute round trip drive to Humacao to visit grandpa almost daily, but he is worth ever minute and mile! Below are some of the pictures from our adventures. We went to the beach, swam in the pool, hiked in the El Yunque Rainforest, visited Grandpa and other extended family, saw tons of lizards, and really enjoyed time together as a family. Hopefully these pics give you a good taste of the amazing time we had and you could have by considering a trip to a very under appreciated Caribbean island.

I hope you enjoyed the pics as much as we enjoyed this trip! You should definitely consider Puerto Rico as a vacation destination. It's beautiful and the economic stimulus you bring to the island is a huge help as they continue to rebuild and make the island even better!

Thank you for stopping by.

Thanks for linking me to this!

I still find it hilarious that anyone would consider me "famous" but whatever, it certainly gave me a chuckle. We had our neighborhood friends visiting from Nashville and they thought it was pretty funny also. I'm glad you said hello and you had a great time on this amazing island.

What trail did you hike at El Yunque?

You are "famous" in the Steem world. If anything it elevates your dad coolness credentials :) I believe we did the Juan Diego one. It was a real short hike to a small waterfall. We usually do the La Mina Falls trail but it was closed. We will be back for sure!

Fantastic!

Yeah, dad cred is always worth something. :) Thanks.

That is crazy you ran into him haha. The odds. Great pictures, certainly looks like a blast and I'm sure that doesn't come close to capturing it. I will add Puerto Rico on my travel radar!

You won't regret it! Amazing island!
