Walks Along the Moscow River 👫🌞
I took this photo from the banks of the Moscow River. To the right of the photo you can make out the beautiful gold domes of Ivan the Great Bell Tower, it's my favourite site within the Kremlin walls. It was completed in 1508 to serve the Kremlin cathedrals which didn’t have their own belfry, and it was the tallest building in Russia for almost 400 years. While retreating from Moscow following the unsuccessful invasion of Russia in 1812, Napoleon’s Army attempted to destroy the tower and failed again. Thankfully, the main pillar of the bell-tower survived, and its Belfry restored to original dimensions in 1819. The Moscow River is one of my favourite parts of the city and I really enjoy a stroll along the banks starting from Luzhnetskaya embankment. After a long winter in Russia, spring finally arrived and I couldn't get enough of the sun! Victoria and I had just spent a few hours admiring walking along the river, enjoying some of the cities favourite parks and monuments.
Amazing view.... and great effects on the water. Amazing photo, @seanreilly!
