Gili Islands, Indonesia - My Pregnant Getaway - Part 2/2
After having experienced the awesome vibe of Gili Trawangan, we were wondering how different Gili Meno and Air could be... till we reached Meno; the place where Elizabeth Gilbert ends her book, 'Eat Pray Love'.
Gili Meno; the tranquil, virgin island.
White sand, turquoise blue water, almost empty streets and virgin beaches...
In a speed boat, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to reach Meno. In these 10 minutes, Gili turns from a vibrant party island to a completely quiet and tranquil place. Gili Meno is as quiet as it can get. The locals here like to retain the originality of the place. So, after 8 pm, the only real external sounds, you would hear would be of crickets and the mighty sea!
The main beach of Gili M
At this time of the day, if I would have clicked any beach on Gili T; it would be bustling with activities.
Beaches here in Gili M are just perfect to swim. Generally people come to Meno on day trips for romancing, swimming, snorkeling and diving. Only a few stay here.
We took our accommodation bang on the main beach this time, in one of the first resorts of the island; Gazebo Meno; and loved it! In a resort that is situated on the main beach, only 2 Gazebos were occupied (including ours).
I quite enjoyed our stay in Meno. Almost private beaches to ourselves, the empty sandy trails, beautiful evening walks, with my baby kicking in approval :) These two days are by far, the most peaceful days of my life.
It takes about one and a half to two hours to walk around this island.. On the way you would come across all these beautiful sights
Meno Evenings
Make Art Not Waste it said :)
The 10 days of vacation was slipping away and we now leave for Gili Air, wondering what will this last stop have in store for us.
Gili Air, is a perfect blend of Gili T and Gili M. You would find luxury accommodations as well as hostels; couples, groups as well as families; reggae bands playing in the resorts as well as travellers jamming on the beaches.
For us, Gili A was combined nostalgia of Gili T and Gili M.
While beaches in Gili A are great during high tide in mornings; at the other times, be very careful of sea urchins. In the excitement of swimming, the pregnant me had got stung by it and it was very painful. the stings stay under the skin and are difficult to remove. Thank God for those helpful local boys, who helped clear urchins from my foot!
We stayed in 'Goodtimes Bunglows', run by Heidi and her family (that includes a goat!). They were wonderful hosts
You can get everything on Gili Air ;)
Only way of transport
Sunsets of Gili Air are beautiful too :)
Gili Islands happened to me when I needed it the most and I loved every bit of it...
These three tiny dots of Gili islands in the mighty ocean are actually three different worlds... perfect for anyone..
Feel like letting your hair down and partying; go to Gili Trawangan!
Want peace; go to Gili Meno!
Want a bit of both; Gili Air is for you!
Seeking marine adventure; go to any of the three!
This was all about my pregnant getaway to Gili Islands. Next time when I go there, I will get some breathtaking underwater pictures to share with you.
To all those who took time to read one or both of my posts on Gili, I join my hands in 'Namaste' to thank you!
