Welcome to Sicily! Not just an island, but a planet. An incredibly vast and varied territory, including mountains, plains, sea, different climates, populations, and different languages, it would take a lifetime to get to know it well. It is impossible to make a list without forgetting something valid and interesting. To discover Sicily you must then check this list of Things To Do in Sicily! Here we suggest at least essential things to do and what to do if you are on vacation on this fantastic island.

Many people come to Sicily with the idea of enjoying the sun and the sea. By the truth it is true, in Sicily the sea is the absolute protagonist since it surrounds it and gives it some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.

For those who love the sea intensely, we recommend coming to Sicily to practice water sports such as diving, especially in the unique seabeds of Aci Trezza, Ustica, or the Egadi Islands. Those who love surfing, in Sicily should focus on Palermo Beach, Mondello, Catania Beach, but also Marina di Ragusa. You can windsurf anywhere, but particularly in the Messina area and its Straits.

If you are adventurous and love nature at the same time, try canoe rafting through the turbulent waters of some rivers, also in Sicily. You can do it on the Alcántara river, crossing unique landscapes such as its famous canyon between Messina and Catania. But you can also go rafting in the Palermo area, between the Madonie Mountains, descending the restless Pollina River from Gole di Tiberio for 8 kilometers to the bridge over the highway.

Sicily is rich in hills and mountains, which is why hiking (trekking) is a very widespread sport, as well as mountain biking. You can do it anywhere, along the Alcantara canyon, over the Peloritani, between the Nebrodi and Madonie roads. But we recommend the thrill of walking the steep and stony sides of the volcanoes. Climbing to the top of Mount Etna, on foot or by mountain bike, or trekking on the Stromboli volcano, or climbing to the highest point of the island of Vulcano are emotions that no other place can give you.

Every town, every corner of the countryside, every stone in Sicily hides history and art. Knowing everything is impossible on some vacation days. The suggestion is to plan at least three trips to Sicily to make slow and careful visits to the most beautiful cities of art.

If you are in Sicily and you have the opportunity to do so, don't miss a feast of the patron saint, a festival, an event linked to tradition. In summer but not only, there are numerous popular festivals that color towns and cities, but sometimes also the ports of the island.

Believe it or not, winter also arrives in Sicily and it snows above the heights. You can ski very well at Piano Battaglia on the Madonies and Etna. However, there is something special about skiing or snowboarding to Etna: perhaps you will find yourself skiing while the volcano is expelling columns of ash, or perhaps you will test your skill among the lava rocks that emerge from the white mantle.

For the little ones, Sicily is anything but a hole. If you are looking for night entertainment, discos, alternative clubs, live music, pubs, your destination will surely be the historic center of Catania.
