The Twin Town of India

source

The resemblances and similarity between twins definitely makes our head turn when we see such a pair and amaze us.But what if you live in a town surrounded by twins..your head is bound to go for a spin.Kodinhi a remote village in Malappuram district of Kerala state in India has amazed the researchers and doctors for having 500 pairs of twins out of total population of 20000.

The village widely considered as the Twin Village has baffled the scientists who have tried to offer a scientific explanation to this phenomenon since 2009 but have failed to do so.Teams of researchers from India,Germany and UK collected the saliva samples to isolate DNA but were unable to unravel the mystery that surrounds the village. The village which first came to public eye after Daily Mail published a report in 2009 has since then riddled us all .In a nation with average twin births being not more than 9 in 1000 births,Kodinhi with 45 twins per 1000 births has puzzled the scientists for long now. The people of Kodinhi, have even set up a Twin And Kin Association (TAKA).

This image shows 78 pairs of twins(156) out of a total of 178 people (22 parents holding their children
