I think your experience reflects the experience of many people trying to learn a new language. When we first start to learn a language, we are quickly rewarded by the easy acquisition of a few key words, but then we hit the barrier where it feels like we realize that there is a lot more work to be done to reach the next level in fluency. Don't give up!

While I think it's totally cool and super useful to be able to use real-time translation devices, I don't think anything can replace the connection you build and respect you show when you learn a different culture's language.

For example, I don't think Donald Trump's grandchildren would have made such a positive impression on the Chinese people if they had sung the Chinese song through a translation device. 😊

I think if you can find some way you enjoy to keep exposing yourself to Italian, you will be able to pick up the language. The key is to enjoy the process! Good luck!
