Finally Arriving at Donghaksa Temple
20170830
Donghaksa is famous for the bhikkunis(Buddhist nuns)'s temple. And this temple has had it's role for a buddhist college. The bhikkuins have been studying a buddhist theory here.
Main building of Donghaksa Temple was not as big as I thought. It was not particular with comparing to other temple where I had visited.
There are a small 3 stories stone pagoda. It seemed to be built in Koryeo Dynasty(918-1392AD).
Koryeo was originally Buddhist country. The absolute majority Buddhist temples had been built in Shilla and Koryeo Dynasty.
Donghaksa was built in 724 AD in Shilla Dynasty. The tower seemed to be built in Koryeo Dynasty.
The pagodas built in Koreo era were supposed not so elegante and graceful than the ones built in Shilla and Baekjae Dynasty which existed before Koryeo Dynasty.
This phenomenon was very strange to me.
It was not prohibited to take the photos inside of main building.
So I took the photos of the pics painted in the wall.
There were so many figures, but I couldn't understand the meaning of those figures. Unfortunately there was no one to ask the meaning about that.
One of the important place to visit in the temple is 3 holy saint building.
As I had posted, this kind of building is very unique in Korean Buddhist Temple.
This building is a symbol of negotiation between traditional religion and Buddhism.
There I took the photos of the 3 holy saint. I already had posted relating to the 3 holy saint. I am gethering more pics on 3 holy characters to compare to each other. When the photos are accumulate, then I could've understand more on the characteristics of the traditional religion. Korean traditional religion seemed to have very close relations with Siberian and Central Asian culture even to the Tibet.
After looking at the 3 holy saint building, mom and I went to little more to the mountain.
There I saw the sign "No enter. Monks are studying", there was a lecture building. So I took the pics of that building as quick as possrblr

Beautiful picture, I think I am joining in toward the end of your trip, but I wonder what brought you to this temple. Are you generally curious? Also, did you take these pictures with your phone?
Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

Today, we visit a temple with a woman’s touch, @slowwalker—a study and teaching center for Buddhist nuns.
The main hall where the nuns study is beautifully decorated, but this is not a place for tourists, but for learning and contemplation.
The three saints, I assume, are the historical buddhas and the colourful paintings, probably depictions of Buddhist monks.
The candles and statues give the temple a traditional religious atmosphere, but the statues, as I understand them, are not meant to be representations of gods so much as teaching aids.
The grounds and buildings are very peaceful and look well-maintained- and since they are nestled in a pleasant valley near a flowing stream and the setting seems idyllic.
Your photos were lovely, @slowwalker, and allowed us to experience the gentle ambiance of the temple and grounds.
Thank you as always 😉

It is a large temple complex where he lives but he does not see visitors anymore due to old age. I got a chance to shake hands with him back in 1999 when I was a student. These days lots of tourists go there to learn about Buddhism and also for spending a few days as it is at a higher altitude and in Summers weather is pleasant.in india lot of budhist temples like the "mahabodhi" temple is located in Bodh gaya in bihar n many more INDIA :)
