Experiencing Mayon Volcano
before it’s eruption

Land And Sea Travel From Cebu To Manila. Random Photography and Video By Smokinglems #3.

Hi folks! Smokinglems here.
On my earlier episode on The Land And Sea Travel From Cebu To Manila, I brought you to
San Juanico Bridge which is considered as the longest bridge in the Philippines. It was a wonderful historic site to be visited. Today I’m here again to bring you to another fantastic place I experienced during our Land And Sea Travel. Let me present to you, The Mayon Volcano.

Located in the province of Albay, Sorsogon, Bicol Region in Philippines. Famous for its Name as the Perfect cone because of its symmetrical cone shape, it is also called from a Local folklore referring to the volcano being named after a legendary heroine princess named Daragang, Magayon, in English, a Beautiful Lady. With her beauty, she is also called a Shy Volcano, because more often, she hides her magnificent beauty from the clouds.

This volcano can clearly be seen in a park called Cagsawa park where the famous church that was buried down along with the town of Cagsawa during the Mayon Volcanos eruption on February 1, 1814.

The eruption buried the small town and nearby areas killing an estimated of 1, 200 people who took refuge in the stone church.

As you can see, only the remains is the bell tower of the church meaning almost all of the church was buried by the molten rocks.

The greatest tragedy and the strongest eruption recorded to date happened in Cagsawa was the eruption of Mayon Volcano.

When I saw this place personally, what I can say is, it’s so awesome.

With its magnificent landscape and historical background, it’s really an experience worth remembering.

We where on our way home to Manila from Cebu using only our van and riding a ferry from port to another port crossing land and sea.

This is the map of our journey.

We did a lot of stop over on our way home, and this is one of the Magnificent place I will never forget.

I only read about this Volcano from books and watched it in television and in the internet. This is also one of the topic in schools. Lucky for me, I had the chance to experience it in person.

Before we reach Mount mayon, we where in the port of Matnog where we ride a ferry to cross the sea from port Allen.

From there we started to takeof our land travel on the place of Sorsogon.

We where discussing regarding what we are going to expect to see in this place of sorsogon. Then we checked our map having no idea of the place we are exploring. After checking the map, I was so surprised that while traveling, we are going to pass by this famous Volcano in Albay. One of my long time dream was to be able to see famous places in the world like this place personally. We are already here and are about to experience this place so we where so very excited, but the only problem is if we are gonna reach the place on time, if we reach the place at sun down, there’s nothing left to be seen.

On our way, we traveled wonderful places of Sorsogon.

Sorsogon was so beautiful, lots of magnificent places and landscape. We also pass by Mount Bulusan (Click to visit blog)

While we are on our way, the time passes by so fast, it took us a lot of time consumed in some places because of traffic, it was already 4 hours before evening and trying to estimate the travel distance to reach Mount Mayon,

we realized that it is difficult for us to reach it on time before sunset, so we step on the gas and tried to hurry, we where like somebody who are racing time to reach the finish line. A few hours later, we where nearing the vicinity of Mount Mayon, but we where confused, coz suppose to be, in that distance, we should be seeing the tip of the volcano already, but the confusion is, why until this distance we are not able to see it?

Because of the doubt, we stop a little bit to ask a resident walking on the side walk, asking her where is the volcano, she said it’s there, but you can’t see it because it is covered with clouds. Oh no!!! Now the problem is not just to reach it on time before sunset, but also to see it clearly without the clouds covering it. We where worried while we are on our way, that we might lose the chance to see it because it is covered and we might not reach in clear daylight because of the road traffic.

A few hours later, we where so lucky to reach it where there still day light but the sun is almost setting down, so we hurry to get all our things especially our camera to take some photos. Well that day maybe a lucky day for us coz while we are parking the car, the Mayon was covered by clouds but when we entered the park, the sky became clear and the Mayon volcano is clearly to be seen.

Was so happy and lucky to reach this place and to have this chance to see Mayon Volcano with my family. Truly, they call her the shy Volcano, because she always hides from the clouds, but luckily when we arrive, she reviled her self and her beauty.

I don’t know why or how? maybe a coincidence, but maybe one of us prayed and was heard. Magnificent view, I wanted to stay longer to appreciate the view, but the time is running so fast and we need to go on our way home. before we go on our way, we eat diner on the same place. The park has their own souvenir shops and mini restaurants.

One thing I have noticed is, the place was hot, I was sweating while eating, and was removing my clothes. Analyzing it, that was maybe because of the volcano, and we are stepping on top of a crust of Molten lava below. After eating our dinner, we are ready to go on our journey back home to Manila , the surroundings became dark and the place where the beauty of the volcano can be seen hides in the dark, the sun sets down, and it was dark, but the memory of that few hours we where there was always remembered. We drove away from Cagsawa to legaspi, to Naga, to Camarines Norte, to Quezon, to Lucen, finally to Manila. It took us almost a day to reach the destination and our journey is a thing to be remembered.

Today, currently the Mayon Volcano is erupting.

Another video I saw courtesy of youtube about the eruption of Mount Mayon.

Lava are pouring down from her. It started to erupt this month of January 2018, and we where there last month of August 2017, only a few span of time and that memory still remains.

Imagining the scenario that are happening in that place where we where before. Worried about all the people living there and there livelihood lost. Hope they had a successful evacuation and nobody hurt. For us, we where glad to know that we had the chance to visit it before the eruption.
