The Lord Buddha is highly revered by Buddhitsts and we all grieved on the loss of the Lord Buddha. I believe that many Buddhist would want to visit the place where the body of the Lord Buddha was cremated once in our life.

My sister had a great opportunity to visit that place called Makutapanthana Chedi, in India. It’s an important place that represents the cremation of the body of the Lord Buddha.

Makutapanthana Chedi looks like a large brick mound. It reminds us to remember the virtue of the Lord Buddha to achieve Buddhanussati meditation merit. I believe that everyone who visits the place expresses their sorrow for the loss.

Besides, visiting Makutapanthana Chedi, they can experience peace in both mind and body.

In Thailand, we call the day for remembrance of the cremation of the Buddha’s body as Atthami Puja Day which is on the 8th waning day of the 6th lunar month. It is the day of the cremation of the Buddha's body, 8 days after he passed into nirvana. It is considered another important day in Buddhism.

Apart from Makutapanthana Chedi, another important place of Buddhism is Kesariya Stupa which is believed to be built at the spot where the Lord Buddha had offered alms bowl to the monks who followed him when he departed from Vaishali after delivering the last sermon in which he announced his approaching nirvana. (according to the sign)

This Kesariya Stupa is the largest stupa in India. In the pictures, it’s just the top of the stupa.

These two places are worth visiting, especially if you are Buddhist.
