The best drone angles in Rawai, Phuket. (video)

in #travel6 years ago

With a day off and a little free time, I finally managed to get round to a quick edit of some summer-time drone footage.

Rawai is situated on the southeast corner of Phuket, Thailand and is famous for its picturesque peninsula. An undeveloped coastal region like this in Phuket is hard to find, but makes the perfect place to fly. Nearby beaches make a great setting to film long tail boats and small fishing trawlers.

Low tides are always great for photography- especially when there are evening shadows cast long across the sand.

Flying directly into the sun during sunset is one of my favourite 'flight-styles'. The scenery, landscape and colours need to be just right, but can produce a great clip.

When I first saw photos of the headland, they must have been taken on a very calm and quiet day. Gentle waves no more than a little splash gave the impression it would be an ideal place to snorkel- it wasn't. Huge crashing waves and currents made it look dangerous and uninviting- at least from a swimming point of view!

Sat comfortably in the small blue roofed shelter at the end of the pier, I had the perfect 360 view. With shallow water beneath me, dozens of crabs could be seen rummaging around the rocks and concrete pillars. My dog couldn't take her eyes off them- but as long as they stay under the water, they are safe from a chase!

4 brightly painted fishing trawlers a few hundred meters off the coast were interesting to fly over- I couldn't seen anyone on deck, but it was the middle of the day and they usually head out late evening.
