Our Activities on the Celebration Chinese New year's day.
Hello Steemian!
On the last Chinese New year celebration 's day in my country, Laos. My family and i had many activities together. We made worshiping ceremony to ask such blessing from God wealthy, prosperity and succeed in the year 2019 that is the year of the pig.
The days before New year we woke up 3 am in the morning to clean up the house and decorated the house with chinese red lanterns hanging in front of the door. The belief is to drive off bad luck and evils also
Red paper cutting - written with Luck and Happiness and New year Painting are pasted on doors, walls and windows for decorative purposes and as a symbol of New Year's greetings.
We went to market to buy alots of chinese snacks, fruits, raw materials for cooking and some of worshiping materials such as candle, insence stick etc. We worshiped the God with no meat dishes , but vegetarian food, desserts and fruits, it's only also because of we ourself are vetgetarian.
On the chinese new year celebration day 7th-8th we wore red T- shirts or red costume because it's a sign of a fresh start, ready for good luck and can protect you from evils. In this day we have some taboos that we avoid to do such as
☆ Don't sweep or take out garbage it symbolizes of dumping out the good luck or good fortune from the house.
☆Don't wear white or black clothes as these two colors are associated with mourning traditionally.
☆Don't have streit or spoil each other or say any bad things or about the death. In family should have smile and be happy on this day.
Most importantly, in this day Grand parents, parrents, cousins or friends and children will give each other Ang bao (red packets) is a gift of money inserted into a red packet to wish each other luck for chinese new year.
My Grandmother gave me this year Ang bao with money 50.000 Lao kips. It's about 6.25 $.
