Greece Experience #3: Some reflective thoughts leading me to Samos Island

Some days passed since my last post, but now I want to continue my story, referring to Greece Experience #1: Escape and Greece Experience #2: Icaria.
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time and I wish all of you happy New Year!

For me this time of the year is a time of happiness and reflective thoughts. As 2017 has finally passed, I think back to the moments that remain in my memories, the moments that I felt most comfortable, happy and satisfied. And, since Christmas time and New Year’s Eve is also a time of consumption and satiation - that’s my impression of the Western World and Europe, but at least I can only speak for me - I have to assert: All I want in this period of my life is a safe and warm spot to sleep, a backpack and meeting people.

I zoned a bit, but these thoughts lead me to Samos Island, my second stop of my Greece trip.
This Island was definitely a place that remain in my memories.

Breakfast on the top of the mountain…

The Turkish coast is a few kilometres away. The sea gate between Turkey and Samos is about 1,4 km at the narrowest point, that’s why many refugees entered Europe via Samos in the last years.

The Monastery of Panagia Spiliani high above the sea…

…with its church built inside a cave. A quiet place to escape from the heat and cool down.

When you wander up the mountains, you’ll find beautiful remote villages with a wide view…

…and a lot of caves in the mountains. For instance, the Cave of Pythagoras.

…Camouflage boxes for safe sleeping berth. The owner of the shop, an old woman, invited me to use this place and offered me a cup of tea in the morning.
