Das Areal rund um den Hamburger Fischmarkt finde ich als „Landratte“ sehr aufregend. Kleine Fischbrötchenbuden und Gourmetrestaurants wechseln sich hier ebenso ab wie altes Gemäuer und neue Architektur. Der Fischmarkt liegt entlang der Großen Elbstraße hinauf zur Hafenstraße, die über die Pepermölenbek mit der Reeperbahn verbunden.

Der deutsche Fernsehkoch Steffen Henssler betreibt in der Großen Elbstraße gemeinsam mit seinem Vater das japanische Restaurant „Henssler&Henssler“ sowie mit der „Fischbude“ Henssler@Home einen Lieferservice für Sushi. Ausserdem betreibt Henssler dort seine Kochschule „Henssler Küche“.

In der Großen Elbstraße liegt auch die kleine Hafenkneipe „Zum Schellfischposten“ in dem Ina Müller in ihrer Sendung „Inas Nacht“ immer ihre Gäste begrüßt. Der Schellfischposten wirbt mit dem Slogan „älteste Seemannskneipe in Hamburg-Altona“ zu sein. Karten für Inas Show können leider nicht über die Homepage des Schellfischpostens vorbestellt werden.

Beim Übergang von der Großen Elbstraße in die St. Pauli Fischmarkt ist ein U-Bootmuseum wo man das alte U-Boot U-434 von innen besichtigen kann.

Die Kneipe Strandpauli ist vom U-Bootmuseum nur einen Steinwurf entfernt. Es ist eine coole Kneipe die sogar einen kleinen Strand hat wo man in Liegestühlen bei einem Cocktail den Hafenblick genießen kann.

Ein paar Meter weiter beginnen die legendären Landungsbrücken von wo aus die Boote zu den Hafenrundfahrten starten.

Auf Höhe des Altonaer Balkons direkt an der Elbe liegt eines der neueren Wahrzeichen der Hansestadt, das Dockland. Es ist ein Wohn- und Bürogebäude das aussieht wie ein Kreuzfahrtschiff. An der einen Seite führen Treppen nach oben wo eine Aussichtsplattform ist die kostenlos erklommen werden kann.

Von der Aussichtsplattform auf dem Dockland hat man einen schönen Ausblick über den Hafen und die angrenzende Umgebung.

In der Van-der-Smissen-Straße ist der Altonaer Kreuzfahrt Terminal. Hier liegen die großen Cruiser und warten auf ihre Gäste.

The area around the Hamburg fish market is for me as a landlubber really exciting. Here are small fish stalls and also gourmet restaurants as well old buildings and new architecture. The fish market is located along the “Große Elbstraße” up to the “Hafenstraße”. The “Hafenstraße” is connected via “Pepermölenbek” with the famous “Reeperbahn”.

The famous German TV cook Steffen Henssler and his father practice their Japanese restaurant Henssler&Henssler within the “Große Elbstraße”. He also practices the fish stall “Henssler@Home” where you can get Sushi to go or for Home delivery and a show cooking area named “Henssler Küche” within the “Große Elbstraße”.

In this street is also the small quayside bar „Zum Schellfischposten“, where Ina Müller, a famous German TV star, in her TV shows “Inas night” welcomes her guests. The “Schellfischposten” promotes the bar on its Homepage with the slogan that it is the oldest sailor bar in Hamburg-Altona, where the fish market is located but you can´t order cards for the show on the Homepage of the “Schellfischposten”.

At the end of the “Große Elbstraße” to the “St. Pauli Fischmarkt” (also a street in this area) there is a U-boat museum where you can visit the old U-Boat U-434.

The bar „Strandpauli“ is only a few steps away from the U-Boat museum. This is a cool bar with a small beach near the river Elbe where you can drink cocktails in sunbeds and enjoy the panoramic view to the harbor.

Also a few steps away are the famous and legendary St. Pauli “Landungsbrücken” from where the excursion boats start up to the harbor tours.

Below the “Altonaer Balcon” (it is little park above the fish market) straight to the Elbe is one the town´s new landmark, the Dockland. It´s a building which looks like a cruise ship. At one side of the building there are stairs where you can go upstairs for free to the viewing balcony from the building.

Within the „Van-der-Smissen-Straße there is the Altona cruise ship terminal. Here stay the cruiser ships for the guests.
