Food in Asia... everyone's talking about it, but there's more to it than Chinese, sushi, and Pad Thai... (9 photos)
Raw ingredients at a floating kitchen, Bangkok
Another post that I promised someone... yes, there's all sorts of amazing stuff in the Asian kitchen, and here are some things that you don't see everyone talking about:
Really, the fresh coconut is an amazing invention. Coconut milk is far more refreshing then water especially once the thermometer gets past the 35C mark...
Who needs a kitchen when you have boats?
Now the fresh markets in Asia are really something else. This is one in Phuket, Thailand, in a corner where the tourists mostly don't go.
Just about everything you can imagine, food wise, is on sale here. Quite cheap, too.
The tourists on the other hand go to places like this -- Khao San Road, Bangkok.
Is India part of Asia? Some would say it's sort of separate. Either way, Indian street food is totally different than what you get elsewhere, and worth trying.
And if we are going to include India, then I had better give a shout-out to Nepali Dal Bhat...
Yes, even the animals in Asia have to eat. These monkeys in Bali displayed a remarkable nose for mangoes.
