Discovering Mar Chiquita Lagoon - Argentina (flooded city)
Today we want to share with you the pictures and our experience when we discovered Mar Chiquita Lagoon, in Cordoba, Argentina.
Sunset on the lagoon. The trees are all dead due to the flooding.
In 1977, this lagoon almost doubled its size because of the excessive rains, Miramar city was flooded and its population had to be evacuated.
Nowadays, the city has been rebuilt but you can still see the remains of the original buildings.
Left: Tower that was part of one of the biggest hotels; Right: An old street that ends on the lagoon.
Old pool inside the lagoon.
Beside these old buildings and their history, this is a particular lagoon. Its water is salty, that is why they call it “Mar Chiquita” (“Little sea” in spanish) and you can find more than 350 different species of birds.
Flamingos and ducks are two of the most common species.
Mar chiquita is a Natural Reserve and a beautiful place to discover in Cordoba, Argentina. This is a map of the location for those who want to visit it: https://goo.gl/HtkeCa
