Venice - Our Trip Part 2

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians,

this is our second post about our trip to Venice last week. If you want to check out the first post you can click here. Otherwise let's go on with the 2nd and 3rd full day in Venice.

Saturday

After we concentrated on the San Marco areal in Friday we decided walk on the other side of the Canal Grande. We started the day with a little red wine in a small bar near our hotel and then moved on. We had no fix destination until 7pm so we just ambled around again. To be honest, we lost our way a few times over the weekend. I don't want to lay the blame on the wine, there are just so many small alleys which ends in a pier at a canal unexpectedly. Or if you follow some people to find back to the main path it can happen you followed locals and you end up in a blind alley where you only find doors for the apartments.

To summarize it in short: we sat down and drank a bottle of wine here, drank an espresso there, listened to a street-artist here and ate to dinner with another wine there.
In between we checked out the Leonardo Da Vinci museum which we can recommend if you're interested in his works. You won't find originals there but nice copies of his inventions which you can touch and use to understand the functionality and handling better.

So after a lot of wine we entered the only fix target we had for this day:

Venice Jazz Club

I found this club during internet research for music events in Venice and decided to book a little table for two. We are not even that deep into Jazz but can recommend it to every single person who can enjoy music. It was just awesome!

It's a small Jazz bar where you can also get something to eat before the band starts to play at around 9pm. The band consists of a drummer, a contrabass, a guitar and a piano and they play only a few months in the year and only a few days in the week - so if you want to go there, check out their website linked here first. They often also have guest-musicians with them.
This evening they played around 2 hours of great tributes to Miles Davis (songs like Blue in Green). These guys are fucking talented and I think there is no better way to fall in love with a new music than this. The pianist (who's also the barkeeper) is also a great entertainer and the perfect guy to guide through the evening.
Entrance for 2 persons + dinner for each + a bottle of wine = 50€ - that's really cheap! :)

We met some really friendly Canadian guys in there with which we went for some more cocktails after the concert and had a great evening together. The perfect ending for the day!

Sunday

On Sunday we took the "water-bus" on the Canal Grande to reach the east side of Venice. There we spent the day walking around and sitting down in the park. We were a little bit destroyed from the night before so this was a really lazy day, just enjoying the city without special arrangements.

Later we came back to the areal around our hotel (around Cannaregio) and ate something in a small restaurant combined with some cocktails afterwards to let the day fade out.

On Monday we had to check out before noon and our friendly receptionist called a water-taxi for us (we really loved this woman). While driving to the airport we enjoyed one last time the sea-air combined with the buildings of Venice. If you look at it from the water outside of the city it seems so quiet and mysterious without the stream of tourists...

Thank you for reading and stay tuned! :)
