Road Trip to Augusta, Western Australia

in #travel7 years ago

My girlfriend and I decided to go on a weekend getaway before Christmas, and neither of us had been to Augusta so it was the perfect choice. I booked a place to stay on Molloy Island, called the Hobbit House, and we packed our bags the following day. It was a long drive so we stopped off to buy pasties and a caramel slice, then drove straight there.

Arriving at the island, we caught a boat ferry across the river and drove to the Hobbit House. It was tiny, cozy, and everything we expected.

We settled in for the evening and later found a kangaroo at our door!

The next day I made choc chip pancakes for breakfast, they were delicious. We then got ready and drove to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

The views from Cape Leeuwin were gorgeous, especially from the top of the lighthouse itself. After this we drove to Flinders Bay and walked along the beach.

We later headed into Augusta for lunch, eating more pasties at the local bakery and cafe before visiting Jewel Cave. When we arrived the next tour of the cave wasn't starting for another 45 minutes so we walked a bush trail just outside the visitor centre. When we got back the tour started and we immediately descended into darkness, and the temperature dropped fast. The main cavern was incredible, and large enough, our guide told us, to fit Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.

That evening after the tour we headed straight back to our Hobbit House, where we watched Dirty Dancing as I had never seen it before. I enjoyed it!

The next day we said goodbye to the Hobbit House. We packed the Jeep, and drove into Margaret River town centre. Where we spent a few hours looking around the shops and eating at a cafe, then taking too many free chocolate samples at the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, before finally driving home.
