Sydney: Visiting Taronga Zoo

in #travel6 years ago

The day after the Blue Mountains we spent relaxing, out in the garden and soaking up the sun, I attempted, successfully, to teach my girlfriend to juggle. Albeit with lemons plucked from the nearby lemon tree, and my 'attempt' inevitably resulting in her throwing them at me... We then practiced Sherlock-like fighting, which entailed her throwing me to the grass. A while later we moved inside and began watching FunforLouis videos, until dinner, when we had a bbq and spent the night stargazing.

The next day we decided to check out the Zoo. We plotted our route on google maps and caught the train into Circular Quay. Stepping off the train we immediately spotted the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House:

We caught a ferry called the 'Friendship' (The best kind of ship according to CCP, wink wink any Eve Online players) to the other side of the harbour, then rode a cable car up the hill to the zoo's entrance.

^That's Luna Park below the bridge there.

We began making our way around inside the zoo, busy yet not overly crowded. Here are some pics:

^This is a Reticulated Python, the longest snake in the world.

^An Eyelash Viper, it waits, alert, in low palms, bushes, and shrubs to ambush birds that fly too close.

^The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. In my opinion, if an animal's name screams f*ck off, then it's best to do just that.

^I will admit to saying to my girlfriend that we don't have to worry about this snake as it's over East, entirely forgetting that we were in fact... over East. She proceeded to let me know of my idiocy and wouldn't stop laughing.

^Isn't that the guy who plays Sherlock? I hope any fans of the show get this meme.

^This big guy (or girl) was pacing, wants a one way ticket back to Sumatra.
