Visit to kanheri caves
Kanheri Caves
In 2016 I visited Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali, Mumbai. Which one of the most visited national park in the world.
In the park one of the biggest attraction is Kanheri Caves, (the word Kanheri means Black Mountain in Sanskrit). These caves are built more then 2400 years ago. These caves consists of more than 100 cave rooms, buddhist Sculptures carved on stone walls (Bodhisattva's). One can realize the real beauty of ancient civilization and architecture from here.Apart from the caves the National park is also full of nature very different from the rest of the city. People often visit the park to feel relaxed in the weekends and to take a break from busy lifestyles. The attractions such as lion & Tiger safari, boating, train across a small part of the park which includes forests with rivers etc are famous. The park is home to a number of endangered species of flora and fauna. The forest area of the park houses over 1,000 plant species, 251 species of migratory, land and water birds, 50,000 species of insects and 40 species of mammals. In addition, the park also provides shelter to 38 species of reptiles, 9 species of amphibians, 150 species of butterflies and a large variety of fish.
The Park is open throughout the year, but the best time to visit is during monsoon (june - September) as the nature is at its fullest, although the caves are closed during monsoon due to the rocks which get wet and slippery. For visiting caves any time except monsoon is good.
