Ukraine Diaries: Khreshchatyk Street

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

In Ukraine Diaries serie, I will talk about my Ukraine travel in good ways. Of course my whole travel is not perfect. But i will tell my bad stories in Ukraine Nightmares serie. For now, let's just talk about good things. I will also share the photos I take there with you steemians on my posts. If you miss the earlier posts of the serie, you can read them from the below link.

Khreshchatyk Street one of the most beautiful street i've ever seen. This street has a spirit. The spirit of Ukrainian people and freedom. My earlier post, i talked about Maidan Nezalezhnosti and it's on the khreshchatyk street. Maybe i love this street because of that. Maybe street musicians i dont know. But i go there and walk around the street every day i had in Kiev.

The street has a length of 1.3 km . It stretches from the European Square (northeast) through the Maidan and to Bessarabska Square (southwest) where the Besarabsky Market is located. Along the street are the offices of the Kiev City Council which contains both the city's council and the state administration, the Main Post Office, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the State Committee of Television and Radio Broadcasting, the Central Department Store (TsUM), the Besarabka Market, the Ukrainian House, and others.

This street feels like i'm home. Because Istiklal Street had almost same spirit with it. I said ''had'' because we lost the Istiklal Street in Beyoglu. Everywhere is construction and old buildings is now shopping centers. This is terrible. Back in days, Istiklal Street had a spirit with the people and local shops. In Khreshchatyk Street, i remembered old Istiklal. That was a sad moment for me.

After that moment, I wanted to enjoy all my time in the Kiev. I knew that when i go back, i will miss that place. So i spend best time in Kiev. Street has a tradition. Every weekend and special days, street closed for the cars and only people walk around there. In Istkilal, we have this privilege all the time. But Istıklal has very narrow roads. Cars can't go there already. Even people can not fit. But Khreshchatyk had very large roads. When i in the street, i feel very confortable. And there was no car at the weekend. That was awesome experience. Street musicians were great. They were sing all the night. Not just with guitars. There were a whole band in the street. Small coffee shops and entertainments were amazing. We had so much good time in Ukraine. But espicially Khreshchatyk Street incredibly beautiful for me. If you go to the Ukraine, go there in weekend. I'm sure you you will have great time!
