The statue was established on July 6, 1915, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus.

The Old Town Square is not only a popular meeting place, but also for New Year celebrations, holiday markets and protests. Sometimes, ice hockey and football games will be shown on the big screen, attracting a large number of fans.
