Ulog 003. A well spend weekend in Copenhagen

in #travel6 years ago

Hii!

Last week, I visited Copenhagen with some friends! The city itself looked in my opinion a bit similar to Amsterdam. The houses in the center are build in kind of the same style, but some areas were lots more colorful. A big pro of Copenhagen is that the city is way less crowded than Amsterdam. Amsterdam is overloaded with tourists and when you are there it looks like there are more tourists in the city center than people who are actually living there.

Looks like the houses along the canals in Amsterdam, but more colorful

During my city walk I passed by so many old churches. They were beautiful and very old, but not much different from churches in Holland. Maybe a bit bigger but not something to travel 15 hours by bus for. But people from other countries with an other style of architecture might really love it! Anyway, I still don't regret this trip!

Okay, maybe it looks a lot better than Amsterdam

The next day, I went with my friends to the little mermaid by train (to Osterport). During the walk to the statue we past by the Kastellet, an old fort which was used in the 16th century to protect the city. Nowadays there are still people living but it became a tourist spot. The architecture is looking so different from Holland, in a good way! In case you wanna go to Copenhagen, definitely visit the Kastellet!

And than it was time to pass by the little mermaid. It was just a few minutes walking from The Kastellet. Arrived at the little mermaid statue, it was quite crowded. I didn't expect that amount of public for a statue! It made me think about all the good beachy days in the Philippines. Good memories and better temperatures than the 9 degrees in Copenhagen while not wearing a proper winter jacket. But yeah, feeling cold for 2 days isn't actually that bad. I will only appreciate the heat more when back in Asia!

After our late lunch, we took again a train. This time to Birkenrod to visit a castle. We arrived a bit late and it was already getting dark, but we had still the last bit of light to enjoy. The castle, called christiansborg slot, is definitely a must visit in Copenhagen! It is one of the better castles I have seen in my life

It was getting really dark and we passed by an other friend of Fatima who lived nearby the castle. As a big surprise, she welcomed us with coffee and chocolate cake! I couldn't wish for anything else to warm up in the cold evening!

A Christmas vibe on the way to Fatima's friend

I stayed in Copenhagen Backpackers hostel right behind the central station where all the trains stop, and my Flixbus I took from Holland stopped here as well. The airport is just 13 minutes away by train so very convenient since I had to leave the country by plane.

That was my journey to the capital of Denmark! I would definitely recommend you to go here! There is so much to do! Even though it looks a bit like Amsterdam, they have lots more old churches and castles nearby, less tourists and it is actually not as expensive as expected! If you wanna do it cheap, keep it on hostels, walking or rent a bicycle and pizza's, shoarma shops and salad bars. You can make it as expensive as you want. Hope you enjoyed reading it and next time I will write about Asia again! Which country? You will probably find out in a few days ;)
