The battle took place on Lookout Mountain, which is a big ol' ridge that overlooks the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Union forces, led by General Joseph Hooker, attacked the Confederates, led by General Carter L. Stevenson, on the slopes of the mountain. The battle was fought in thick fog, which made it difficult for both sides to see each other.

The Union forces eventually prevailed, driving the Confederates from the mountain. The victory helped to open the way for the Union to capture Chattanooga, which was a major strategic victory for the Union.
