Kazakhstan - My native land. How movie BORAT changed its history LOL

in #travelfeed5 years ago

Fame comes from unpredictable sources!

Before Borat came out, not many people of West knew where is Kazakhstan. That's due to it being part of USSR (Union Socialistic Soviet of Republics), Russia today. After USSR collapsed in 1991, 15 countries became sovereign countries.

And if you look at the map... you will be impressed:

Its 9th on the world for its size.

What I love about it, that it has seas, mountains, deserts, forests, valleys - so you can fund pretty much any type of natural landscape in KZ.

After movie Borat, the country gained its interesting popularity )) Me personally I haven't watched it until in 2016.

I heard our president and some of politicians were not happy about it. But I think black humor is the best PR )))
Especially that there was zero of Kazakh actor in this movie and it wasn't filmed in Kazakhstan as well )))
Poor Sacha Baron Cohen (the actor) he didn't mean to offend Kazkahstan. He just wanted to make fun of USA and picked so called "fiction" place... which actually exists, LOL

But there was another hilarious event happening around the same movie

AND THIS IS F...NG SO funny!!
in 2012 one of the country's athletes won a gold medal at an international shooting competition in Kuwait. At the award ceremony, Kazakhstan's winner stood atop the podium, placed her hand over her heart and stood for her country's national anthem. And the award ceremony officials apparently picked the wrong Kazakh national anthem ))))
Instead of the real anthem, they played song from Borat movie hahahahahhah!!!
I guess they just googled it and Borat came first.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT!

and this is full version

I adore the face of our winner, her confident calmness. I hope inside she was really laughing her ass out.

This country has so much

First of all, it has Oil! Yet, it doesn't have own national companies to manage it. So country is full of international OilnGas companies. Many expacts live and love it. They eventually settled there and married local women :)

Yes! Kazakh women are truly unique. We are asians, but we are different from China, Japan, Korea. Feature faces of kazakh women can look like those, and also can be so different, that you wouldn't guess where she is from.

When I travel around the world, I have a whole list for people to guess:
Mongolia, Peru, Chile, China, Bali, Hawaii, Mexico, Native American, Korea, and on and on and on.

Our culture has also experienced a diverse influence. One one side we are originally pagans and nomads. They used to move from place to place every season and live in yurts:

Then when Mongolians invaded with Chyngyz Khan, we started look more Asians. Later converted to Islam. Then became part of Russia and this culture influenced us tremendously.

The original language comes from the Turk Family, which sounds similar to Turkish :) Second language (also official) is Russian.

So what is Kazakhstan, its hard to define in a simple way. It sits in the Central Asia and due to its location so many cultures passed by, leaving some traces of its own.

I left Kazakhstan in 2013 to live in India, Bali, Thailand, Lebanon, UAE and now Canada. I feel like whole world is my home, but I will always remember where I am coming from.
This is my city I was born in - Almaty

The wife of a good friend of mine is from Kazakhstan. It's hard not to think about Borat when I see her. The jokes were simply too good, although they are based on made up cliches.

Is it true that Cohen was banned from Kazakhstan for his movie?

Nice post btw. Cool pictures :)

@wirago thanks for your reply :) hm... thats a good question! I woundnt be surprised if he was banned. Because our president is truly dictator in democratic disguise ))))))))) I lost the chain of events after.... I hope he wasnt ) because that would be such a cool event to send him there ))))))lol
