Nuremberg, Germany

Read "Nuremberg, Germany" on TravelFeed.io for the best experience

Nuremberg is a city in the district of Middle Franconia in the state of Bavaria. The population of Nuremberg is around 500,000 people.

The historic city center (Altstadt) of Nuremberg is characterized by its medieval architecture. Nuremberg was badly destroyed in World War II, but you can still see and feel the medieval flair of the historic city center.

In the following I write the names of the sights in German and English because I think the older population, in particular, does not speak English well and German names can be very helpful for visitors from abroad.

I recommend you if you are in Nuremberg to get the Nuremberg Card, it grants you free entry to over 40 sights in the cities of Nuremberg and Fürth in Bavaria.

There are many stories about Nuremberg, but one story is world-famous. It is the story of Kaspar Hauser, who appeared in Nuremberg on May 26, 1828. The city of Ansbach approx. 45 km. from Nuremberg has a Kaspar Hauser Museum and a wonderful courtyard garden, which is worth seeing in summer. Ansbach is the district capital of Middle Franconia and is a small city with a population of around 40.000 people.

Beautiful fountain (Schöner Brunnen)

Now I walk to the market square in Nuremberg, especially for couples there is a special fountain, the "beautiful fountain"! At this fountain, there are two rings, a golden, and a black ring. The golden ring is easy to find and the black ring is on the opposite. The two rings stand for fertility and general desires. If you touch the ring, your wishes will come true.

If you visit Nuremberg in winter, you can visit the Nuremberg Christmas market (Nürnberger Christkindelsmarkt), the location is the same. There you can buy mulled wine, sausages, gingerbread and also gifts and souvenirs.

Mops von Gostenhof (Pub)

I am thirsty, I am going to drink a real Franconian beer. No, not the mainstream beers, I mean very special beers that I have never found in any other pub.

The pub is in Gostenhof, which is a trendy district of Nuremberg. In this pub only cash is accepted, no card payments! Oh, it was not open, it opens daily at 6:00 pm. I could not drink a beer today.

The beers are unique and there is something for every taste.

Free Food in Nuremberg

In Germany, we have an association which is called Foodsharing they have a map where you can find food that is no longer needed in shops and by private people.

https://foodsharing.de/

In case you're a dumpster diver be careful and don't do it during the day. Dumpster diving is forbidden in Germany and the shops are the owner of their trash. But anyway a lot of people do it!

This is the end of my small city tour, but in Nuremberg is much more to see than that.
