My first summer holiday trip.. (2016) #1

in #travelling7 years ago (edited)

The winter and cold weather is coming. So I thought of an idea to post something warmer.

It was my first 10 day (from August 1 to August 10) car trip to Southern Europe with my family (3) and my moms friend family (4). In total we're 7.

We started in Klaipėda, Lithuania. Our goal was Croatia. Our map you can see here.

1st day. So we drove out of our home about 6 a.m. Marijampolė was our first stop, but just to pick up some coffee at a gas station. Second stop was in Suwałki just to buy some food and drinks. So as we moved on nothing really serious happened. When we reached Katowice (about 9 p.m.) we started to search for some apartments to spend the night. Bad luck - we found none, so we slept in our cars in a gas station parking lot.

2nd day. When everyone woke up we bought some coffee again and left Poland and were greeted by Slovakia. We're astonished by its mountains (as we're living in Lithuania all we see is boring plains) so we stopped near some kind of apartments to admire these nature creatures. We took some pictures and moved on to Hungary by narrow mountain roads. As we stopped in Komárno to buy a vignette and exchange some money. I felt so rich when we exchanged 50 EUR and got 15'000 HUF. Today, our goal was to reach Balaton (largest lake in Europe) and find somewhere to spend the night. As we reached northern side of the lake we got rafted by a ferry to the southern side. Good luck today, we went to Siófok to a B&B restaurant and found really nice lady who rented us apartments 100 meters from Balaton. As we moved in to the house we went to the beach. I was surprised how that large lake is so shallow with average depth of 3.2 m (10 ft) and maximum depth of 12.2 m (40 ft). After we got back from the beach we went to sleep.

Ferry to the southern coast of Balaton

3rd day. We left our apartment and drove whole way to the Croatia. Our goal was to go to Biograd na Moru, but after we got close to the city the road was closed, because of the forest fire. Then we changed our plans and went to Primošten, while watching the helicopters extinguish the fire. After arriving to the city (10 p.m.) we got lucky again. We found an apartment to spend the night in. The view from the balcony at night was really cool.  After we planned our trip further we went to sleep.

In those 3 days we drove approx. 2000 km (1250 miles).

If you will find any typing / grammar mistakes the report would be appreciated.

Continuation will be posted next week.
